He should start learning mma if he wants to really take his game to the next level at Atletico.

I think he is a legend solely for the fact that he got Barca to pay €120 million for him just for them to sell him a few years later for €20 million.

Sucks that we wasted all his money on Joao Felix, who was bought specifically to replace Griezmann.

In return for Griezmann we got: Suarez, a league title and Griezmann back 2 years later. So Barca gave us La Liga plus 120M for a 2 year Griezmann loan, whilst breaking his confidence to the point that he begged to come back on a much lower salary

One of the best transfer deals ever, and the truth is that we would never have been able to keep Griezmann long term on the wages he was previously on. He was earning 700k/week before joining Barca, more than Ronaldo earned at any point with Madrid

Excuse me what? 700.000 euros a week? Dafuck? And how much did he earn by moving to Barca?

IIRC and if the numbers correct he was earning 700K at Atlético , took a paycut to join Barca and he was rumoured to be at 400K a week at Barca.

His pay was initially lower but afaIk his contract was structured in a way that over time his wages would rise to 700.000 and then above and at end of his contract he would’ve earned the same as if he always got 700.000 euros per week for the whole duration of his contract.

It really was all a communication trick. They milked the whole “Griezmann wanted to come to Barcelona so much he took a pay cut” narrative, until the details started to leak in the press.

The final days of that 2020/21 La Liga season were pure fucking magic. Seeing Luis Suarez absolutely rifling them in for Atletico right after he was unceremonially dispensed with by Barcelona gave me life.

to the point that he begged to come back on a much lower salary

He took a pay cut to play for Barcelona, he earned more at Atlético before and after the transfer.

It’s like you’re just making stuff up to pretend you’re right lol.

You’re absolutely on to nothing except the fact that you robbed us. You convienently leave out the facts that you spent 126M of those money on a Much worse player also on big wages, whom you Cant get rid of and that suarez came to you a year after which had nothing to do with the griezmann transfer. But Yeah absolutely one of the best transfers ever, go on with that mental gymnastic

I love griezmann But it Will never not be funny How he first did a documentary about his decision to stay in Atleti and then a year later did a documentary about his decision to leave for Barca. Although Atleti did absolutely robb us

Because he was bought for enormous money which put a lot of expectations on his shoulder and There was never a plan for him. He played best centrally as a second striker or striker But we already had suarez There and we had messi as a right winger so we couldnt even use him on his third best position. We ended up using him as a left winger were he sucks and had No possibility to invert Too because of him being left footed. So basically we limited all his greatest strengths, he didnt have Good confidence and all of our balls were going to Messi so he didnt have the chance to show himself a lot.

It got Better the second year after suarez left But still not close to his atletico years and after that second year we ended up selling him for a bargain price because of his rididiculous salary (given by our infamous idiot president at that time But thats a different story)

It is funny at Barca’s expense though, we got the best deal ever. You gave us Luis Suarez, a league table + Griezmann back in return for a 2 year loan of Griez lmao

It hardly could have worked out better for Atleti, we ripped you off so badly

He gets a lot of criticism for his time at Barcelona but how much of his failure was the managers inability to use him. At Atleti he has been successful as a second striker, main striker, winger, attacking midfielder, center midfielder, defensive midfielder, and even as fullback. Both Simeone and Deschamps know exactly how to utilize him.

But he also might have matured as a result of the Barca stint which allowed him to be even more flexible now.

Maybe he just weren’t in the right state of mind during his Barca years (possibly in combination with manager issues).

Occasionally at the end of games he has had to play on defense to close out games. Usually after an injury or all subs were used.

Who would’ve thought him moving to Barcelona was such a master stroke chess move for Atletico. That said, it was foolish for Atletico to spend that much money of Joao Felix. Who knows, maybe I will turn out to be wrong again!
