The “Diss” runs secondary or tertiary to the comment that Brady had just won a super bowl in the “current game”. Alex made a valid point there that’s going to be lost in the comment that Tom played in a historically uncompetitive division, which is also technically true.
I think both scenarios exist where Tom was great and the division sucked, in fact I’d even just call that our version of reality. At no point however, did I feel Tom Brady as a Patriot was ever Mediocre.
Tom and the Pats were a major factor in the division sucking though. Constant ass kickings are demoralizing and lead teams to do drastic things.
Fire the coach, reach for players in the draft, get a new quarterback, trade for the star, overpay for the free agent, etc.
It also keeps players from joining his most direct competition. I admired Alex Smith with the 49ers and especially after his horrible injury. But the reality is that the premier free agents did not want to sign with a team that wouldn’t even make the playoffs because of Tom Brady.
I hear the arguments of “Well X QB doesn’t want to go to a team that has Mahomes in the same division”, and find that a bit ludicrous (see: Russell Wilson) but there are other divisions that are more wide open that don’t have a Mahomes in it, where that QB has a better chance to win it. They have a better chance of making the playoffs.
How many times is this going to be reposted?
I’m confused, everyone here all year said what Brady is saying, whether it’s about the top QBs outside Mahomes or saying stuff like “none of these top teams really look like juggernauts it’s all open this year”, but now that he says it people lose their minds?
Smith wouldn’t of won the division one time as a Patriots qb. Shit the one year Brady did go down Miami and Pennington won. Not the Patriots
Alex Smith= Da 🐐
Ale Smith shouldn’t be allowed to talk about football anymore if he really believes this stupid narrative
Brady was saying this type of stuff before even winning that SB in Tampa, so this isn’t him retiring and saying suddenly everything is easier.
AFC East was shit, but that whole excuse has been overplayed for literal decades. Playing in a bad division does not explain how you torch it in the postseason and win 7 SBs.
There’s also something to be said for the effect that Brady and Belichick had on that division sucking. When a team is that dominant, it can be hard for other teams to gain traction in that division. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that as the pats started their downfall, we also saw the bills and dolphins begin their ascent
Patriots record vs division as opposed to the rest of the league was a whopping half a game higher vs division opponents than the rest of the league over a full season.
Alex Smith can literally go fuck a duck and snap a leg while doing it.
What point is he trying to make by pointing out that Brady played in a bad division for most of his career? I think Brady knows as well as anyone how bad the division he beat the hell out of for two decades was.
And then to just gloss over the actual points Brady made in detail, with half a sentence? He knew if he “disagreed with Brady” it would draw attention. That’s all it is lol he’s smarter than that
He’s saying that Brady stating that the NFL is soft compared to when he played isn’t really all that solid a point when there were dog shit teams in his backyard.
He’s not discrediting Brady as a player, just that whether it’s now or 15 years ago, there’s always shit teams that exist.
Alex Smith’s most notable career moment was breaking his leg.
