A sin bin is a perfect punishment for those “Fuck it, just haul him down” tackles. A yellow is too soft for stopping a very dangerous attack.
Start with “only captain can talk to ref” and give out yellows for every one still crowding the ref. If this doesn’t work try timed approaches, even if I prefer the “every coach can call VAR 2 times a half time” rule, even if it is tactically misused when games are ending.
I would also add if you fake an injury you have to leave to field until the next pause allows you to get in again.I am in favor of this. It penalizes people even more for a yellow card. And this makes the game less foul based and more play.
So…penalty box. Hockey style. I dunno…ask a hockey fan what they think of the quality of officiating…👀
Making things more complex will not give you the outcome you’re looking for…unless what you’re looking for is more reasons to scream at officials…
Sin bin is a great idea. Especially if they’ll sit them down for diving.
In principle I am for the idea. In reality i’m dreading the implementation of this, as it’s a can of worms that will explode all over the PGMOL and make them look even more like incompetent idiots.
yeah there is always that chance that it will go horribly wrong
In principle really? Do you not see how bad the refs are week in/week out? Why give them even more power to dictate the result of a game?
Game is utterly gone
It really is.
So stupid. Stop changing the rules of the game.
PGMOL needs to learn to officiate well under the current rule systems before they start trying to incorporate any of these wildcard tangents. VAR has already upended them into a state of perpetual chaos, fix that shit first, please.
Just jumping on this comment to say that this article is published every year with a slightly different wording. Every year football is going to try sin bins or orange cards and a few weeks later we hear nothing more.
There will still be a lack of consistency between and even during games, so this will just add yet another layer of ambiguity and controversy.
I like the idea of it actually. I think if well implement, it could work. I think it would specially make sense in situations where people start getting convenient injuries during the latter stages of close matches.
They just really needed semi automated VAR and mic up. Wtf is this sin bin shit. This is not a handball where they score 40 goals in total. Killing the game. Nice.
I do like this to deal with professional fouls, people should not be picking up yellows just because it is tactically wise to do so at a given moment.
This is a proper punishment which will make them think twice.
Realistically how many and often would we be expecting them? If they are as often as a red, then fine, I don’t like it at all, but whatever. But what if it’s every team every game? Multiple times a game?
If too frequent, the game will just be decided by who take most advantage of the sin bin time, and who can shut up shop well enough during theirs. It sounds miserable.
It will inevitably just turn into another endless point of contention, where slow mo images are used, and fans are adiment their side is on the end of a ref’s conspiracy.
The refs already have enough subjective rules, no need to add more.
