I respect people and their beliefs as long as they respect other people and theirs.

I don’t have time for people who use force to make others believe in their god. I didn’t put up with Christianity being forced down my throat in primary school, and that stance won’t change, however; if people want to politely talk about it, I won’t shut them down.

Use that intelligence to talk about your point of view. If they don’t want to change their mind, how is that insulting? For some people, the belief in god/s is a comfort in this shitty world that helps them get through the day. I have no problem with that.

I don’t have a problem with that either but what I do have a problem with is people who believe in fairy tails being able to vote and influence the laws I am forced to live under.

So In general I just hate religion.

Terrible things have been and are still been done in the name of religion, so I guess I can’t blame you for hating it. I also totally agree religion has no place in politics.

I think the best any of us can do is play the long game and educate people without insulting them. Calling their religion a fairy tail - even if that’s what you strongly believe, will just make them defensive, dig their heels in and refuse to hear what you have to say. You might even give them the wrong idea about what Athiesm means.

There will be eventually be enough people in the right places to be abe to say enough is enough and pass legislation to remove the religious aspect of the laws of the county they are in.

Respect is a reservoir. It fills slowly, and when the damn breaks, it empties all at once. Once that happens, it doesn’t fill up again until the damn is repaired.

A man can believe whatever he wants, but when he spouts off some racist bullshit, suddenly all of the redirect for his beliefs fades away too. Everything he said before is tainted, and I’ve no reason to respect any of it.

Everybody gets a base level respect, they can either earn more, stay the same of lose it.

They can nevere get respect by demanding it

You don’t have to respect religious beliefs, but every person that treats people with respect, also deserves some respect.

Every religious faith has to negotiate between the mores of the society in the era and its scripture.

Jesus is now a brand, as we can see in thr juxtaposition of the He Gets Us Jesus and the mores actively practiced by those who promote and finance the HGU campaign.

I respect the identities of parishioners. I respect that they have beliefs. I respect when their principles are consistently held.

But once they are a danger to themselves or others, I cannot any longer afford that respect.

I am still very much annoyed when I found out this week that Catholics can eat eggs for lent but not chicken since potential life isn’t actual life if it is tasty.

Zero mutual respect zero. If they don’t want an abortion they are welcome to not have one, but that live and let live wasn’t enough for them.

uh, eggs you eat aren’t gonna hatch. I don’t see potential for life there. and it doesn’t have to do with life anyway. even complex animal life. Fish are on the menu.

No! Leave the egg alone for long enough and it will be full of life! Trust me, anyone who tries this will know immediately that life found a way!

I did some searching and it doesn’t even matter if it is fertilized or not for lent. Which is why Catholics can have quail eggs as well.

Load of shit hypocrisy child raping bastards force women to die for “potential” life and sit there eating eggs

You are being disingenuous anyway. if they thought the dietary restriction was about life, wouldn’t it be year-round and not just during Lent? Be serious, the abortion thing is about human life only. Your anger is getting the better of your brain.

I know that when it suits them they defined an egg to not be a bird and at the same time they defined an ectopic fetus to be a person.

Why? We don’t have to be EEO about religious mockery. No obligation at all that every religions get yelled at exactly the same amount.

Besides which you have to at least pretend to respect Christianity since it rules the world. Even if you hate it it is is still one of the biggest facts of living on earth.

I don’t have to (and I won’t) respect anyone’s religious beliefs if they believe their religious views give them the right to discriminate against and hurt others. And where is the respect for MY atheistic beliefs? They all act like I just am too stupid to see “the light,” when in reality I believe what I believe with the same amount of fervor and certainty that they feel.
