I wanted to include links to other related communities in this community. I was trying to come up with terms for all these related relationship types, and then I remembered that this venn existed. I’ve seen numerous versions of this previously. This one happens to come from (https://polyadvisor.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/nonmonogamy3-large-768x512.png) or REALLY ENORMOUS (https://www.xeromag.com/sexualinformatics/nonmonogamy2.5.2.gif) See, I even credited my source. :-D
it’s a nice diagram, but it’s not a Venn diagram
Cool, what term would you use to describe this diagram?
e.g. the religious one only intersects with unicorn….
bunch of overlapping rectangles….
a venn diagram shows all possible intersections within groups… and is kinda pointless past 4….
this one seems to be just intentionally over complicating things for entertainment
I was going to correct you but you’re actually right. The term for this is a Euler diagram. I think they’re more useful.
Yes, of course!! Again TY!
oh nice, my “logic for math and science majors” class didn’t cover those…
I’m pretty sure “intentionally over complicating things for entertainment” overlaps significantly with most forms of “Non-monogamy”, and with “the human experience”. ;-) The pertinent question is, which of these rectangles/ explanatory examples fits for a given person, and which one’s don’t? I believe this diagram was developed to help us understand where we fit in the poly-schema we’ve developed.
no… it’s completely useless for explaining anything…
like, see how religious non monogamy doesn’t overlap with commerce?
the point of a venmo diagram is to visually represent if there’s something in that overlap or not.it’s basically satire of a venn diagram….
Umm, I’m just the messenger. Wanna see if you can talk with Franklin, the author? I linked his blog.
There is some middle ground between “you guys go do that kinky stuff, I don’t want to hear about it” and “my husband visits a pro domme”
“Do you want to try my new paddle today? Not today? Ok”
“Dragon Con, need I say more?”
👀
Here’s the article on Polyadvisor explaining the brainchild of Franklin Veaux, author of More Than Two - (https://polyadvisor.com/the-venn-diagram-of-polyamory/)
And from Franklin Veaux’s Blog, An update (December 20, 2017) to the Map of Non-Monogamy (https://blog.franklinveaux.com/2017/12/an-update-to-the-map-of-non-monogamy/)
Nice diagram
I know, huh! I’m sure there are other venn diagrams, memes, infographics that make understanding complex topics like open human relationships so much easier. As our consciousness changes, more information dense ways of communicating about our relationships will naturally come into use.
Solo polyamory, relationship anarchy, and hierarchical stuff I think need to be better represented.
I avoid a lot of stuff I consider to be hierarchical nonsense. Stuff like “I need permission from my other partner for stuff I do with you”. Anything with “veto power” is right out.
Con sex is probably over represented? I don’t know if that deserves a whole bubble on its own. Seems like a more specific instance of something else.
