    Fuck cars so much.

We need to redesign Canadian cities to be walkable and transit oriented. Half of all Canadians live on the Quebec - Windsor corridor, which has the density and the geography to be able to be turned into a Western European like rail-and-bike heaven.

Fucking dumb policy, but inevitable given the US’ stance.

    North American leftist politicians:

    • Let’s ban all the cheap electric vehicles because consumers want to buy them too badly.

    Also North American leftist politicians:

    • WhY iSnT tHe Ev ReVoLuTiOn wOrKiNg?

Subsidize North American manufacturers equally to Chinese ones and then let them fail if they can’t compete / intentionally keep trying to sabotage the EV market by only producing giant expensive EVs.

I have zero interest in allowing Chinese automakers to have independent access to the Canadian market as long as long as other auto manufacturers don’t enjoy the same access to the Chinese market.

We do have access to the Chinese market based on the FIPA Harper locked us into in 2014.

Canadian companies just haven’t taken advantage of it.

As far as locking out China, according to the FIPA we can’t.

This is gonna be a long, drawn-out battle we will lose … all because of that scumbag Harper.

Canadian government: noooo don’t burn fuel heres a carbon tax

Also the Canadian government: nooo don’t order a cheap electric vehicle, you need the luxury chevy suburban XL mega cab EV green hybrid edition.

Seriously, how do we expect canadians to make greener decisions if this is how we act? Most people can’t afford a house right now, they dont want to spend more on a car than they have to. American auto manufacturers have proven they only want to make larger, more luxurious cars. They aren’t really trying to compete in the small cheap EV market, so their solution is to beg governments to ban their competition.

Considering the quality of Chinese EVs lately, we don’t even need to do tariffs. Just force random safety testing on them and we can basically bar the entire line. Simply include proper collision simulations and battery safety tests. These EVs already spontaneously combust in transit and there’s already been several container ships that’s gone up because of them.

Such tests can be universal and will help maintain local production quality as well.

If we’re gonna talk about safety and reliability, GM would probably be one of the worst performers in that test.

Possibly. I don’t follow automakers generally, but I really wonder if you can be worse than cars with batteries that spontaneously combust while parked, or cars with batteries that are entirely unshielded and placed lower than the axel and fenders, making it the first thing to be hit by any debris on the road.
