Samsung is working on a new AI experience for its devices that will help you use your phone without ever accessing the Settings menu.
Oh, fuck off.
Guys… these phones aren’t for people like us anymore. The days of computers being just for techies who like to tinker are over because the market for “normal” people is so much larger, and the causal user just wants to text some people and watch some videos. They neither want nor need the things that we consider fundamental, so don’t get frustrated that the shiny stuff now isn’t aimed at us.
Agreed but I still agree with op :)
It’s a fair point, and I used to read a lot of articles that made me say “fuck off”, but eventually I realised it was happening regardless of my grumbles so I may as well not let them stress me out!
They don’t want you to disable things they can make money off of you with.
uh that makes sense.
When you think about it, you can’t really disable anything.
That’s why I’m running GrapheneOS, where I can actually disable things.
Already sick of all this AI bollocks…
The title is misleading. In nowhere the article say the Settings app will be removed, but an AI that will tweak system settimg based on usage patterns.
I guess it like: I have my brightness set at zero at 22:00, but sometimes I’m still using my phone and it dim suddenly which is a bit frustrating. This AI will learn that not to turn down the brightness when I’m using it, and wait until some other events happened then trigger the dimming. (Auto brightness doesn’t goes all the way down that Tasker can do.)
I don’t want that though. I’d rather have schedules and toggles than an AI.
While the title is misleading, its worse than what you say. They want this to apply to all settings, so it’d be a pain to have to toggle settings back to what you want every time it changes them.
They have(had?) a setting that prevents screen dimming when you are looking at the screen.
There is no value in AI being used as you describe, typical user habit learning that has been a thing for years can do that. Using AI because you can use AI is not valuable to users.
Man my s24 can’t do shit I want easily that my s9 could years ago
How the fuck is “Ai” supposed to improve anything
Like what? Seriously curious
Turning off notifications in the top menu for certain apps. They come up saying x is connected and I can’t clear that any more.
Turn off Google and bixby rubbish and have it stay off and not come back after every update.
Removing a lot of the bloat apps. Can only disable them now not remove.
They are what come to mind off the top of my head.
Don’t get me wrong there are many things better, but I use my phone for basic shit and liked it the way it was earlier *
Is that first one Samsung or Android?
Like ok Google and Bixby? The only time I remember it coming up on s21 was when I touch earbuds with wet hands.
Yeah that sucks.
I guess giving you less control over your device is an improvement for them, otherwise their service wouldn’t be obliged to destroy self serviced phones
I’m still rocking my S8 active, and I’ll keep doing it until the battery dies or catches fire. Nothing they’ve added to phones in the last 7 years is worth it, imo
Only problem is that the storage is almost full from apps leaking data into locations not accessible from userland, so I’ll have to root it at some point. But I’m confident it got another 2-3 years in it
Samsung can eat my dirty asshole.
i miss my note but I’ll never own another Samsung phone again.
What a waste of time and money !
Things that’ll never happen for $400, Alex.
Thanks for the reminder to debloat my S23U after the last update with ADB AppControl.
Also check out the Universal Android Debloater, it’s FOSS unlike unlike the program you mentioned
