it’s not much, but it’s honest work.
The single slackware gamer. His entire library is games from the 90s
Ha! You’re not wrong.
You should post this on the Slackware community!
I should! I didn’t think I’d get more than a couple upvotes.
Woah, Slackware. You know your stuff. Respect!
Thanks stranger! Just don’t ask me anything about systemd so I can maintain that illusion.
Slackware isn’t as hard as everyone thinks though. Throw it up on a vm and play with it! The install process is pretty easy.
Flatpak version or multilib?
Multilib + the slackbuild script. Slackpkg+ and alienbob’s repos make it super easy to keep a multilib system up to date. Slackbuilds.org is the first place I look if I want to install something new.
I do use flatpak for ultimaker cura, but mainly because there’s no slackbuild and so many python deps.
Doots for fellow Slacker!

giving more details about your hardware to Valve profit from you even more
Because they don’t already have all this info and more about me?
Those are not PII tho. What you’re sending is just how much RAM you have, system and OS information and that’s pretty much it. I’m sure Gaben won’t send an assassin on you based on your HW specs.
If you run any proprietary software connected to the internet then it can send this info to whomever. If you use a regular web browser with Javascript enabled then a lot of this info can also be obtained by whatever website you’re visiting.
For real. As privacy-oriented as most people on Lemmy seem to be, a good chunk of them would still freely give any of that info in a heartbeat if it would make Gaben happy or make Linux more commercialized.
The fact we are given a choice is a big thing for me. I hate when my info is just pulled from me without my agency. But I am happy to share info with open source project to help them improve. Also valve being a private company they can just build software as their main goal vs just making the line go up by any means possible like a public company.
Exactly. Valve already know my OS and hardware profile. If the year of the linux desktop ever comes to pass, it won’t be as easy for game developers and studios to ignore us.
you can be sure that Valve will sell this data to help data brokers create a more accurate profile of users so they can sell ads and make even more profit
You realize the valve hardware survey data is made publicly available?
How tf do you “sell” that which anyone can access for free?
The aggregate info is public, but valve can tie it to individual users.
Ads are for muggles. You’re a wizard Harry.
