Whenever that australian ref is in charge of VAR for an Arsenal game, he will no doubt fuck them up
Reckon we should start the game with 10
So about what Onana vs Wolves?
On the Maguire challenge:
He’s got to get the ball
The ref said no foul and VAR can’t get involved because it’s not clear and obvious
It’s just not a penalty I’ve seen players not have anything given against them when the ball is there, but at the point of contact the ball is gone and it’s a pretty light contact.
The contact is just before the ball gets to him but it’s hard to say whether the contact has put him off the header. And I wouldn’t call it a light contact personally, he’s midair and Maguire puts weight on him with his forearm in his back. For me it’s definitely a foul, and I don’t think the ref can say no foul because the ball has gone, off the ball fouls are still a thing.
There’s off the ball fouls and then situations like that.
don’t know why they say lucky, would have scored 3 with 10 men.
As bad decisions go, 1 missed yellow and 1 penalty not being given is actually a pretty good week for the refs, so well done refs 👍
The amount of errors is just beyond rediculous.
Errors is strong.
Yep. Liverpool fan at the game, far side of the stadium and it was clear and obvious Konate deserved to go
I disagree as I think we’ve gone too soft. If we saw yellows for such a light touch every time, which is what you’d have to have for consistency, we’d be seeing multiple sending offs every game. Beto was straight into his dive as soon as he got touched. I can understand why he’d be trying to even up the match but he was definitely looking for it.
I really dislike Ashley Young but his second yellow was really harsh; Diaz did him no favours either with his multiple rolls. If the ref had just pulled him to the side, given him a big long talking to, Dyche could’ve done exactly the same thing that Klopp did and pulled him off. It was a foul sure, but every foul after someone has been put in the book isn’t an automatic yellow. This is compounded by the fact that the first yellow for young was also fairly harsh considering Tsimikas never saw yellow a few mins later for a similar offence. Similarly, if a cautionary word had been given to Jota vs Spurs then nobody would’ve cared about the fact his first yellow was a joke either as he would’ve just been pulled.
I get there is a lot of pressure on refs when the crowd is baying for cards but before they ultimately ruin the game, they’d do well to take a pause and, if there is any doubt that they’ve maybe not got either call correct, give the player an obvious final warning. If the manager doesn’t pull him or the player just continues to push his luck, then fair enough. I can’t be the only one who is sick of so many red cards this season though. It just ruins the match.
Issue is the yellow is usually given for these situations because it’s a foul that stops a promising attack. If it’s a foul, it’s a yellow card, regardless of how bad or not a challenge it is.
They might be intentional for gambling purposes. I don’t believe professionals can mess up so often in high profile ways
Saying teams are “lucky” as if there’s something else controlling on pitch decisions besides the ref.
I’m sorry, did I miss the part where Konate had to flip a coin or guess a number correctly? It’s not ‘luck’ it’s incompetence. I do not see the logic of how Young was sent off but Konate wasn’t.
Regarding the Chelsea penalty for handball Dermot says it’s irrelevant that it came off Mudruk so close to Saliba
”It comes off Mudryk, but blocks it going forward to another player.
Yet it’s completely contradictory to what he said earlier this season when he said that it’s not a penalty because Diaz flicked it just in front of Jackson
Tbf to Dermot, there are different interpretations based on where the players’ arms are. When the arms are closer to the body, the refs take more things into consideration as mitigating factors, including proximity and deflections. When the arms are above the shoulder they will often ignore those mitigating factors because they feel you were taking a risk by having your hands there.
I don’t agree. He’s jumping. You try jumping with your arms down by your side. Also, it should be about the situation. Mudrik shot the ball. It was off target. There was no chance a Chelsea player was going to get that ball before it went out. And it was shot off target almost point blank into Saliba’s arm. This didn’t block a shot from being on target. It didn’t prevent a pass. It shouldn’t be a pen for me.
Jackson’s jumping too
I mean jackson has his hand by his chest and the ball could’ve hit him even if it does hit his hand
“The guy is put there because of his CV, he’s the best man for the job on the day it’s felt, that’s how the appointments are done.”
If these guys work in HR, there would be Zero unemployment in this world…
That keeper thing, it’s not that it’s not a foul, it’s that they have never been given and keepers have been doing that for years.
Then you get an outcry over one first weekend of the season, then I think one actually got given the next week, and now we are back to not giving them.
What that shows to me is that prem refs are reacting to what they see in the media, and that’s not a good thing.
As for whether it’s a pen, it is or it isn’t, but decide which it is and stick to it. I don’t care if every instance is a pen or if keepers get away with it, as long as it’s the same for every team every week.
Remember when Liverpool tried highlighting the poor standard of officiating and holding officials to account and everyone else said ‘Naa leave out, they’ve said sorry havnt they? Move on, what more do you want’.
I do not, refresh my memory please
Lol where did you see those comments, everything I saw was people across the board bemoaning the fact that the fa will issue an apology and just carry on as usual
Replay anyone?
I’m convinced at this point that we could have randoms ref and be better. It’s so fucking embarrassing.
We’re all lucky!
City have been getting away with those sorts of tackles for years, free kick only, never a card. The ball was going through to van dijk anyway
