I currently have Apple TV 4K 1st gen, now I’m thinking of making the jump to 3rd gen. What do you guys think? Also I just bought a Samsung UHD Crystal TV, I’m wondering if I’ll notice a difference if I switch to 3rd gen

They make great airplay1 devices for older analog amps, receivers. And they have optical out. Use an ATV3 to Schiit Modi3+ DAC connected to a Scott 370R, for example. No airplay2 features, but Apple Music doesn’t down convert lossless from iOS with airplay1.

If someone paid me to have an ATV 3 I’d never use it because I want to watch on ATV4K.

With the TV you bought you shouldn’t hunt for the 4K 2022 version anyway. The TV you bought is unfortunately their lowest low-end model cannot get bright enough or dark enough to be able to take advantage of HDR10+.

Crap. I just bought one of these 2 months ago to give it a try. I paid $79. I was disappointed by the PQ on Netflix and DTV Stream playback. I’m not convinced a 4k would be any better.

Trying to dump mine for $50. ☹️

I keep one of these because it has one advantage. This is the first AppleTV that can do a sort of LAN setup; you can prepare it in such a way that you can directly airplay to it from your iphone/ipad without the need for WiFi. I use this sometimes on holidays or when doing presentations

That remote was so bad I stopped using my AppleTV and switched to Chromecast. I didn’t switch back to AppleTV until Apple put a remote in the iPhone control center.

That’s older than what you have now. I had one one of those when they first came out.
