Seems not much of an update. Other than the headline 25% there have been no real details of what this minority stake entails, or when the deal will actually close.

It is not entirely clear what the structure of the deal will be, nor if there will be specific dates that would allow Ratcliffe to increase his shareholding. It is thought around £245m in additional funds will be made available by Ratcliffe for infrastructure works related to the stadium.

It will be interesting to see how it develops.

I don’t see a world in which SJR puts this amount of money in without an element of control and a longer term plan backed up by legal agreements.

We will see but I don’t think things can get any worse tbh.

Seems like the only decent thing to come out for this for United fans, so far; Old Trafford has been crumbling for years now.

      he only decent thing

This is obviously great but also it appears the SJR/INEOS is taking full control of the footballing side. This is massive, not having an actual structure is the reason we are in this mess. By all accounts it seems we should be set to appoint Jean-Claude Blanc and Paul Mitchel as CEO and DoF respectively. This hopefully means that Ten Hag can focus on coaching, let the DoF do they’re job and not constantly burn money on senseless signings on the whim of ETH or Joel Glazer.

The alternative was Qatari state funded ownership. I don’t care how shit the team is on the pitch, I don’t want my club to ever become a state owned sportswashing project. I’d honestly rather keep the Glazer’s in full control than become another Man City or Newcastle. That’s the best thing about this for me, we really don’t need owners to pump money into the club. We just need owners who are actually going to implement a proper structure to build for long-term success.

Our owner has dodgy links, but I’d rather forest go back to the championship than be bought be a slave state and buy a load of players , then recruit a load of glory fans

Yes, has links to drug trafficking through his shipping business .

Isn’t a thing to proud of , but I think a rich man linked to some shady deals is not the same as turning your club into a complete state run sportswashing project . Which the PL or Governemnt doesn’t dare stand up to

Sadly this position is regularly downvoted in r/reddevils. I was this close to quit supporting United, with the Greenwood thing and if the Qatari bid won. I want those bastards gone but not if Qatar takes over my club.

I mean it’s the original plastic supporters team and casual football fan team, that combined with the desperation to be good again probably had a lot of united fans frothing for oil money.

The original, perhaps, but it’s been a while.

I feel like it’s getting better now that the flag shaggers have realised Qatar have folded for good and are now pretending they’ve always been behind Ratcliffe.

“It is thought around £245m in additional funds will be made available by Ratcliffe for infrastructure works related to the stadium.”

Will the Glazers stump up the rest of the funds since it’s estimated to cost like 1.5b to renovate?

The Glazers won’t even pay for a sausage roll if it’s within a 50km radius from Manchester city center. The rats take out money, not put in.

This is the cost of redeveloping the Sir Bobby Charlton stand plus around £20mil for modernising within the rest of the stadium. A great first step. Should take capacity up closer to 90k.
