Will it compromise security? I am a former Android user and switched to Apple bc of the security and compatibility of software and hardware in the OS. I love Apple and generally don’t trust Google and Android

So even without RCS today, how are my android friends able to react in our sms chat with iPhone users?

Nothing at all to do with pressure from Samsung or google. 100% to do with the EU.

    But no E2EE.

So basically no better than the standard carrier messages and MMS that exists today except… well… oooh, higher resolution photos.

‘Yay’ (said in the voice of Bruce from Family Guy)

Well done to the EU for this incredible, um… ‘victory’?

This is great news. The lack of good texting between my family members and me as a Pixel user is what pushed me over to the Apple ecosystem ~5 years ago. It’s solid, but I will probably pick up a Pixel if this is resolved, just to see what the other side has been up to for 5 years. Google’s services have always been a better offering, so long as you can get past the lack of privacy.

Seriously, are there people out there who actually care about this stuff? Typical first world worries 😋

People in the US don’t like to use 3rd party apps. So when iOS and Android “text” one another, they’re being sent as SMS. “Messaging” apps like iMessage, Discord, WhatsApp, etc are all modern texting apps with lots of features and conveniences. Apple supporting RCS will finally bridge the gap between texting and messaging.
