I placed a bid on this mac on ebay. hopefully it is legit. what do you guys think?
I’m sorry… but what about this listing makes you even consider it’s legit? Right away, I see a couple red flags. Most importantly - there’s nothing in their sold history. It indicates 2 sold listings on the product page, but if you actually click on it, there’s no items in there. This is literally the only listing associated with that account. And the product info is extremely limited (probably just what they were required to enter). Hate to burst your bubble, but there’s nothing there to give me even a sliver of hope. I’d continue looking if I were you.
There is no way to tell without having the MacBook in your possession and poking around.
Nothing suspicious about it and I would trust eBay, just make sure to read the description carefully. If anything goes wrong you are generally well protected through PayPal etc
But also check fb marketplace, it can be more risky in some ways but at least you can test the computer first, I picked up an M1 for CAD$1000
The sticker on the back looks like it’s over top of another sticker. Might be something to ask about
hmm i looked at a few and they all seem to look like they have another sticker under. maybe i’ll go to apple and ask lol
Honestly I’m more comfortable buying new off eBay if it had 0 legit pictures. Like one of those ones that said “150” sold.
This is a great way to do it. A lot of times those are old stock that are being sold and it’s the best way to save some money! But the seller in question only has 2 feedback as a buyer, none as a seller and they only started their eBay account in 2023 so it’s most likely a scam. Some people just need to learn on their own!
I’m pretty sure apple reused boxes from M1-M2 and just replaced the sticker by putting another sticker over the old one
I would never buy a MacBook off eBay if I’m being completely honest just my opinion but people have gotten lucky on eBay
eBay has buyer and seller protections. You just need to know what you’re looking at.
eBay is probably the safest place other than Apple themselves because of the money back guarantee and it being super pro customer.
It’s Facebook marketplace and the local meetup sales you have to worry abut more because it’s all cash and you have no way to get your money back.
100%
I got lucky on eBay, saved me £400. Then I spilt a drink on it, fortunately I had AppleCare+ and they replaced it.
Bro just buy that at a Apple store
If your paying 2000 for a used MacBook just go to Apple💀
Probably a new seller with only 2 feedbacks. Definitely scam. I bet PayPal is not available too
UPDATE if anyone can read the serial number on the back of the box lmk cause i’ve tried all the possibilities that i can see, and on the “check coverage” site from apple it’s not working which is making me suspicious
D77D3J047P
Coverage expires on 14.11.2024, so it has been already activated.
dang you’re smart lol i didn’t know that. and interesting yeah i mean i would assume that it’s newly bought if it doesn’t look opened. still kinda on the fence about buying from ebay. might spend and extra couple hundred bucks and do the apple refurbished but this is tempting lol
It’s a bit strange, indeed. Why would someone sell it at a loss, 10 days after purchase, instead of returning it? The logical thing that comes is mind: it’s sourced using unofficial methods, so it’s either stolen or something in the gray area, maybe an IT manager stealing from the company/
i would trust any ebay product as long as there is no information missing so when you get it you can check if everything is in order otherwise you can get your money back safely
I buy anything and everything on eBay and have encountered all sorts of scams but because eBay money back guarantee is so good if there’s anything at all off about the product I always get a full refund.
The only annoying part of being a victim to a scam on eBay these days is having to wait x amount of days before you get the full refund.
I’ve bought MacBooks on eBay for over 15 years. And even if that listing WAS legit, i would absolutely never consider buying from a seller with only 2 feedback.
Absolutely. Yeah I’m an on-again off-again eBay shopper and seller. I won’t spend regrettable money on anyone below 30 or so reviews.
