Can’t wait to see this game top the charts so all the anti-woke chuds will say “well it wasn’t woke to begin with, that’s why it sells well!”

Android@lemdro.id•Google finally released the source code of Android 16 QPR1!English
20·21 hours agoThis was supposed to happen in “a few weeks” from September 10th, btw. Meanwhile QPR2 is almost there and we just get QPR1. Can’t wait to see QPR2 source code by the summer of 2026!

Technology@lemmy.world•Age verification lands in Italy − here’s how it affects VPN usersEnglish
23·1 day agoThe noose tightens. After this crap was implemented in the UK, half of the country should be up in flames in protests. But it wasn’t so other countries took note and felt confident doing the same thing.

Europe@feddit.org•CHAT CONTROL 2.0 THROUGH THE BACK DOOR – Breyer warns: "The EU is playing us for fools – now they’re scanning our texts and banning teens!"English
32·1 day agoInteresting how “active” they became in 2025. Before, we had one of those proposals failing and then a little bit of peace. Now it fails one time and next week they try again. Not only that, it doesn’t happen only in Europe, since many states in the USA implemented the age verification for 18+ sites (according to the AOL it’s 17 states counting from 01/01/2025), and also the entire thing happening in the UK.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•FFmpeg to Google: Fund Us or Stop Sending Bugs
85·1 day agoHow ironic. Recently, Google stepped up their game of “let’s kill open source Android”, and when THEY need something done, unpaid open source laborers are supposed to throw away everything and jump on the issue. What’s wrong, Google? The source code for Android 16 QPR1 was supposed to come out “in a few weeks”. They said that on September 10th. Maybe FFmpeg should fix these issues reported by Google “in a few weeks” too?
Sorry, buddy, you’re not allowed to have fun on MY internet.

5·2 days agodeny network access to the keyboard
To be fair, if you’re on GrapheneOS and have play store installed, GBoard can still theoretically send the data, even without network permission, as there is IPC. But that’s getting a bit too paranoid so I don’t want to think about it.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Switching from Gmail to Tutanota = getting burned instantly
33·2 days agoI guess that’s true. This might make me question using some online services and providers altogether if I can avoid it. For example, I don’t think I’ll ever use an online password manager and just stick with local one. Having a situation like this with Bitwarden/Proton Pass would be a nightmare.

Linux@lemmy.world•Distro Recommendation Discussion (Not a 'What Distro Should I Use?' Post)English
2·3 days agoI’m not a big fan of recommending neither Fedora nor openSUSE for first-time Linux users. Both of these require you to use terminal to add third-party repository (which is also a topic of discussion in itself) and swap your ffmpeg/mesa/video player to a 3rd-party repo one. That gives users a pretty bad first time experience.

Linux@lemmy.world•Canonical on Core Desktop and the future of UbuntuEnglish
1·7 days agoThis will not go well. Their track record with snap has been terrible from the security standpoint. How many times was malware found in the snap store? Not to mention subpar sandboxing that results in file access issues and missing features due to the nature of sandbox. I feel like Ubuntu has enough problems as is, especially with their non-LTS releases.

Google Pixel@lemdro.id•The Pixel 10 Pro’s new voice typing is wild, and it’s changed how I use my phoneEnglish
23·8 days agoWe need to revisit authors of “it totally changed the way I do x” articles after a few months and ask them if they still use these life-changing features.

Oh, well, that “local only” feature didn’t last too long. After all, why waste perfectly good harvestable data?
