I attribute the sugar from the soda as helping to cause the diabetes though.

I was raised drinking soda as the default… water was never something we’d willingly drink. In middle school I noticed that every day I’d get home from school with a splitting headache and I’d take a couple of aspirin and wash it down with a Coke and the headache would go away. My parents realized that it was likely caffeine withdrawal… so instead of cutting out soda, they started getting me caffeine free soda.

It wasn’t until my older brother was in his late 30s and experienced kidney failure and required a transplant that I realized I needed to make a change. I switched over to water and unsweet tea as my defaults. Even after his transplant my brother still would only drink soda… he didn’t survive Covid. And today my mom routinely has kidney issues but still refuses to drink water.

Everyone in my family, except for me, has diabetes and kidney issues. I’m sure my 30+ years of daily soda drinking will catch up to me, but I do credit cutting soda out of my diet as having a major positive impact on my overall health.

I was curious about that as well… a nice bucket of ocean water thrown on the arms and hands could be fun.

I got tired of having to replace my daily wear belt every year and eventually I went to a local leather shop and bought a belt from them. It cost the exact same as the department store crappy belt, but it’s now been 18 years and I still have the same belt.

In fact, the belt outlasted the leather shop. I don’t know what I’ll do if something happens to my belt or my waist gets much larger.

Agreed, people think that a building that large and with that much money going into it is going to need a lot of local employees. When they find out that it just needs a janitorial staff and tons of electricity and water they start to wonder why anyone would want one of these around… especially if it isn’t paying taxes.

My neighborhood has a neighborhood pool as well as an HOA… and managing the pool is about the only thing the HOA does. The annual dues are only $250, and the whole HOA board rotates membership about every 3 to 5 years. It’s about the best HOA situation I can imagine.
