I used fiebings pro dye, and to apply it I just cut a kitchen sponge into bits and dipped them into the dye. Then I applied in circular motion, and damped again with dye on the areas that I wanted darker.

Also I nourished the leather with neastfoot oil prior to dyeing, I find that is helps getting a smoother, more homogeneous result.

I suggest giving it a try on some scraps before giving it a go on a nice project. You can also use isopropil alcohol to dilute the dye it you want a lighter shade.

Been using cinnamon for a couple years and I’m happy with it, although I don’t spend much time on my computer. Been recommending it as well since I don’t know any better. What’s the most user friendly distro you would recommend ?

This is extremely nice of you to say. I really started with a crappy set of tools that I bought online and the first scraps of leather I could get my hands on, and of course my first cardholder was an atrocity, but I still have it, and from there, I learned everything from tutorials and forums. There’s more than enough free content online to learn the basics and more. Also the leathercraft community is very kind, so if you feel like this is a hobby for you, I can only encourage you to give it a try it doesn’t require much room, and you should be able to get started with 50 bucks. Happy to provide resources or advice on tools if you’d like.

Same here, but it does captivate the baby,and it was a fun project (took me quite some time to make it though).

I cut a smaller piece of leather, skive it to the proper shape, and glue it in between the two sides. I usually glue it to the flesh side of the bottom layer, then fold the top layer over, on top of the assembly. Top layer is an oversized rectangle and inner layer is true to size. Once everyrhknis glued together I cut the top layer to its final saze by following the shape of the inner layer and then I saddle stitch the strap and finish with the edge work.

Most time I don’t take pics of the other side since it’s mostly interesting to us hobbyists haha I’ll look into my pics and will share one with the othe inner side up if I find one!
