buffing_lecturer@leminal.spaceto Linux@programming.dev•Linux on TV? Plasma Bigscreen Gets Some Much-Needed TLC7·2 days agoI think it is just a desktop environment for linux. So it probably wont work on TVs by themselves.
EDIT:
Reading the article now, and I can see why you thought that. I was getting ready to eat my words.
it aimed to turn regular television sets into smart, Linux-powered devices
But on the project page it says:
Plasma Bigscreen is a user-friendly, open-source interface designed for devices like HTPCs and SBCs connected to TVs and projectors. It provides an intuitive experience that allows for easy navigation from a distance using remote controls. Discover an engaging environment that adapts to your preferences, offering the safety and privacy protection that come with the Free and Open Source Software.
Smh it should have expanded its skillset to remain relevant in a changing job market.

buffing_lecturer@leminal.spaceto Technology@lemmy.zip•KDE's Android TV alternative, Plasma Bigscreen, rises from the dead with a better UIEnglish1·3 days agoTheres usually at least some support for connecting game console controllers. That might be an option alongside kdeconnect for the games. I think ps4/xbox one and later both work out of the box over bluetooth. Not sure how it would work in firefox though.

buffing_lecturer@leminal.spaceto Public Health@mander.xyz•You’re Probably Not Wearing Enough Sunscreen5·4 days agoZinc is also pretty good for your skin in general. I use mineral sunscreen because I am stubborn, but it sounds better than it actually is. It works by sitting on your skin and reflecting light. It is opaque. You look white as a ghost, or you buy tinted and risk looking like you are covered in foundation. And it gets on everything you wear especially if it’s black. I probably never use enough just because I think I’d look like a clown.

buffing_lecturer@leminal.spaceto Technology@lemmy.zip•Belkin is ending support for nearly all its Wemo smart home devicesEnglish9·8 days agoAround here most folks don’t seem to imply their partners are not good with tech, just that they aren’t excited about a reduced reliability of their home. Maybe this is more of a trope in other online spades. This commenter seems to respect that most people expect the basic functions of their house to work reliably.
“family acceptance factor” “spouse acceptance factor” “I will consider how others feel and how I might affect them”
I think it’s important to be careful around how you refer to your partner, especially if they are of a marginalized group. I just don’t think this commenter was being disrespectful.

buffing_lecturer@leminal.spaceto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anybody else understand they need to make deep connections with people but their social battery has been dead for a while and can't put up with people's BS?4·9 days agoSometimes mindfulness is more of a soft awareness. Not really thinking or knowing about anything in particular.
I also don’t like how it’s used, because I have the same problem as you describe. It reminds me of trying to maintain a stoic perspective, being non-intellectually aware of sensations in your body, and trying to focus on what you can control.
