To me, this is the right approach. Contributors should not be submitting code that they don’t understand and can’t adjust.

Game Development@programming.dev•How to get video game music? No AI
11·2 months agoI’m looking for a more specific recommendation. Like where would I find musicians to hire for this? Is there a repository of free music that I could use for games?
Yes, there’s a big DLC coming I believe. It’s definitely worth it if you haven’t played Grim Dawn
Look into the Disgaea series (JRPG) and Grim Dawn if you want to play the spiritual successor to Titan Quest.
I would love if someone made a game that is the midpoint in complexity between PoE and Grim Dawn, but I feel like I might be dreaming for awhile

Games@lemmy.world•Amazon has cancelled The Lord of the Rings MMO, but promises it "continues to explore a compelling new game experience" set in Middle-earthEnglish
5·2 months agoI actually think this is a good sign. We don’t need anymore MMOs. Honestly, who has the time or money for MMOs nowadays.

Flippanarchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Trading stocks does not make you a capitalist
1·3 months agoActually, can someone help me figure this out? Like should individuals be investing in other things that aren’t stocks to loosen the grip of capital ever so slightly. Like for example, should I be investing with a local credit union or something like that? Should I not be investing at all? Baby anarchist just trying to learn, thank you 😊

Games@lemmy.world•“You are the most hated demographic at game events.” A major Japanese indie game showcase is waging war on “unsolicited advice dudes”English
46·3 months agoThe article actually talks about how these preachy dudes haven’t even played the game they are criticizing. That’s actually pretty ridiculous.
Oh this is really tempting me haha. One game at a time 😂. I need to not jump projects again and finish one

Games@lemmy.world•Pokemon Nature Documentary YouTuber Is Getting Shut Down By NintendoEnglish
861·3 months agoI’ve honestly never heard of this channel before, but this just seems dumb. It’s like free advertising for Nintendo.
As usual Nintendo goes legally overboard for really no good reason at all. In this case honestly I don’t even understand why Nintendo wasted their time. It’s a YouTube channel, not a competitor.

Games@lemmy.world•As UK game development suffers its ‘sharpest recorded decline’, trade association calls on UK Government to act | VGCEnglish
18·4 months agoThis is interesting, I wonder if these numbers about increasing tax revenue that TIGA is claiming are accurate.
This direct government support is always a little strange to me, like why aren’t they making enough money on their own.
Government support makes sense for things that everyone needs, but support for the video games industry specifically seems a little weird.
Maybe I’m just missing out on some important UK context though. And honestly I love video games so I don’t mind so much, just wondering why UK taxpayers are cool with this.
I actually couldn’t afford to play it really.
The only format I could really play was Pauper and I had some fun with it for a bit at my LGS. Then I just gave up because I wasn’t making any friends at the LGS and I didn’t want to keep spending money on it. I guess proxies exist, but I don’t have anyone to play with 😢.
I actually really wish I could afford it, I play games like Slay the Spire to get the deck building fix without spending a ton of money.
For me, it’s Elden Ring. I wanted to love the game so bad but it didn’t recapture the magic of Dark Souls 1 for me. I never get past the early areas of the game because I just get bored.
Elden Ring just doesn’t make the experimenter part of my brain feel good. I want to try out everything and do everything and constantly adjust to the enemies. But, in ER you are much better off focusing on one thing and getting really good at it. The game is about mechanical skill and pattern recognition, not solving the enemy like a puzzle. So, I just get bored doing the same repetitive attacks and learning when to dodge the enemies. Maybe you get to do a little bit of fun planning by picking the right element or buffs but that’s about it.
I was actually really sad about it, but I came to realize that I just want to play games that are very mathy and allow me to test out lots of builds and strategies. I’ve actually taken an interest in JRPGs as a result and I’m enjoying it so far.

Games@lemmy.world•Day 7 of posting an indie game I found that I think looks cool - Dice A MillionEnglish
3·5 months agoI love indie games, thank you for making these posts! I’ll definitely check this one out as a Balatro fan.
I actually wish there was a game that had a level of complexity in between POE and Grim Dawn.
I enjoyed Grim Dawn but I really felt like your build has a lot more to do with your gear. And the skill system was just a little too simple for me.
However, I’ve been playing games with randomized loot less often over the years. I just don’t have the time and my autism brain gets frustrated when I can’t just experiment with builds easily.

This looks insanely creative. This isn’t a genre I typically engage with, but it looks like such a unique experience that I’ll probably get it.
