5·13 hours agoIt’s such a great example how the whole free press narrative is a brilliant piece of propaganda. It turns out that simply marginalizing ideas is far more effective than banning them.

142·16 hours agoI’m also looking forward to more American top scientists moving to China as their funding gets cut and they can’t find new students.

6·19 hours agoAmerican financial strength forms the basis for these interventions though, and that’s rapidly evaporating as well. Just look at the whole fiasco with yen carry trade unwinding.
fun fact, you can literally use meme templates any way you like
Most modern web breaks without Js though.
I did post it in programmer humor, figured that would be a bit of a give away :)
Wow, thank you so much for taking your valuable time from huffing gas to write all that.
I’m really impressed you can tell what kind of tank it is under the plating.
They still get used, just in a very different role than before drones were a thing. And the days of big tank formations rolling through are very much over. Nowadays they mostly do mine clearing, artillery support, and mobile command centres.
what modern tanks look like in order to survive drones
yeah turning off js means that you can’t really use most sites

The real (inflation-adjusted) incomes of the poorest half of the Chinese population increased by more than four hundred percent from 1978 to 2015, while real incomes of the poorest half of the US population actually declined during the same time period. https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w23119/w23119.pdf
From 1978 to 2000, the number of people in China living on under $1/day fell by 300 million, reversing a global trend of rising poverty that had lasted half a century (i.e. if China were excluded, the world’s total poverty population would have risen) https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/China’s-Economic-Growth-and-Poverty-Reduction-Angang-Linlin/c883fc7496aa1b920b05dc2546b880f54b9c77a4
From 2010 to 2019 (the most recent period for which uninterrupted data is available), the income of the poorest 20% in China increased even as a share of total income. https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SI.DST.FRST.20?end=2019&%3Blocations=CN&%3Bstart=2008

World News@lemmy.ml•Pentagon mulls new nuclear strategy targeting China, Russia; expert warns tactical nuclear push ignores retaliation risks
12·2 days agoIndeed, and Americans are the only ones who even make that distinction.

Hard to say, but AI bubble popping could be the catalyst. The war on Iran has structurally driven up energy prices globally, and the US bond market is now struggling. The fed will likely be forced to raise the rates next year, and much of the hyperscaler build out hinges on having low rates. On top of that, we’re seeing more and more evidence that AI adoption is not going well, which will also drive demand for new datacenters down. And given how much of the economy is tied into this stuff, there could be a massive crash if this starts to sputter. At that point, Cuba is going to be the last of their worries. The Americans basically stuck their dick in a blender with the war on Iran.
