  • Oh yeah, I’m almost certain he’s CIA funded. He does this more sophisticated style propaganda, where the facts he presents are correct, but he adds this subtle framing you have to look for. And if you don’t know the details it all sounds very legit. For example, when he discusses Yemen and Saudi Arabia, he just conveniently leaves out how Saudi Arabia annexed 3 provinces of Yemen in the 30s, and they’ve been trying to do a genocide in Yemen. Kind of important context. Or how he gives numbers through out the video, but then when it comes to the claims of Ukraine knocking out Russian refineries he all of a sudden starts hand waving, and doesn’t mention that Russia isn’t actually a major diesel export globally in the first place.

So, yeah, he’s definitely a sack of shit, but I did learn a bit from the second half of the video, so worth watching.

  • I imagine the calculus for Russia is that the economic attrition is proving to be more harmful to Europe. Russia is largely self sufficient in terms of essentials having its own food, energy, and industry. Europe has none of these things, and the war on Iran has just dealt a further blow. So, it makes sense for Russia not to escalate and wait for the European regimes to start imploding. We’re already seeing this happening in Germany, and likely in France next.

However, that has to be balanced against Europe becoming more brazen with attacks into Russia. It’s hard to say what Russia’s red lines are here, and at which point the calculus shifts to having to do a demonstration. It seems like the recent statement about nuclear weapon use in regards to Kaliningrad had an effect.

  • I think the US will have no choice but to cut back on the global force projection. We’re already seeing articles like this from the US think tanks advocating for abandoning Asia. As you note, the collapse of American presence globally will likely have catastrophic effects on the US economy. So, my expectation is that we’ll see the US put a much harder squeeze on the remaining vassals like the EU, Australia, and Canada. Along side that, the US will likely retrench to the western hemisphere and focus on subjugating Latin America. The domestic exploitation will also increase to new heights.

I also expect that most countries will pursue renewables a lot more seriously because now there’s a realization that being dependent on energy imports is a national security concern. The US is doubling down on oil and gas production, but I think the demand will be dropping. The disruption from the Gulf is structural, and it won’t be resolved quickly. This creates both the time and the need to do renewables adoption at scale. There’s also a massive incentive for China to support these efforts as it will boost their economy.
