I’m not sure how introduced this sub is to STALKER GAMMA, but I’m getting the itch again. The comprehensive guides on Discord do not work for me and I’ve basically removed Windows from all my machines. Is there really no way to make this work on Linux?
EDIT: I’m on Linux Mint 21.2
run it with port proton. if you want gamma, install it on a Windows VM then copy it to your Linux. then run mod organizer with port proton
pretty sure I looked into this a while ago. I searched Linux on their discord and I think there was some helpful stuff on there. be sure to update this thread with how you get on as I’d like to do the same
Updated the thread on my progress.
Stalker gamma can be installed on Linux but you have to compile the mods with windows using the installer and just move them to the mods section in anomaly, which you can run perfectly fine with wine.
I used steam proton to play stalker anomaly, it was ok. While I got lower fps than I expected, its very likely that I configured something wrong. I think it can be played with wine as well. Try using wine and proton, lutris or bottles, whatever is more suitable for you.
Regarding stalker GAMMA specifically: https://github.com/DravenusRex/stalker-gamma-linux-guide
I also tried following the DravenusRex guide a few days ago and failed. I repeated it tonight from scratch, and again I failed. I am able to run ModLauncher.exe, but when I click to “run” to startup GAMMA, it does nothing. I attempt to close ModLauncher.exe and it just launches into Anomaly.
Would really love an updated Linux guide for Stalker GAMMA.
The problem is… people have vastly different setups. Whether its distros, hardware, the way they have lutris installed, what version of wine/winetricks… etc.
There’s no way that I can imagine they can account for all of that without a larger community effort to document every plausible issue and troubleshoot it.
Previously I failed in the simplest of tasks which was to extract Anomaly and GAMMA. I mean I extracted it, but I had no idea it was getting extracted wrong until it outright failed. Now I’m stuck with an issue concerning winetricks because Mint uses an outdated repo of both wine and winetricks.
