As the holiday season approaches, I want to hear about everyone’s top book wishes–whether it’s a collector’s edition of an old favorite, a book that has somehow evaded your grasp, a book that has been recommended by a friend, or anything and everything in between. Why are you asking for these books?

For me, I’m hoping to get two books that Mike Palindrome recommended, The Collector by John Fowles and Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee. They both aren’t at my library, and I’ve wanted to read them for a while now.

My Christmas present to myself will be the next two Expanse books to come out as special edition hardbacks. I’ve never finished reading the series so starting from the beginning seems like a good idea.

Top of my list is the collected fictions of Jorge Luis Borges. I discovered Borges this year and he’s quickly become one of my favorite authors, so I really wanna get that big book that collates every short story he ever published.

You’re in luck too because there’s a new extended edition that was released recently! I haven’t gotten that version yet but I’m definitely going to at some point. There’s also a sequel coming out next year!

Do you have the paperback or the hardcover one? I’ve been thinking about getting the paperback edition, but it’s ~€110 where I live so I’m still mulling over it

My white elephant present this year is two anthologies of Foxtrot, by Bill Amend. My brothers would be happy to get them, and I think their kids would be interested in reading them too, once they’re old enough. Sunday comics are vastly underrated.

    Disgrace is excellent!

At the top of my wishlist right now are Trespasses by Louise Kennedy, The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion, Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis and Frantumaglia by Elena Ferrante.

Less Than Zero is one of my favourite books. It’s the only book by Ellis that I’d consider great. Disgrace is a great book as well. Ferrante is amazing.

Safe and Sound: the Renter’s Guide to Home Repair by Mercury Stardust.

My landlord doesn’t fix anything unless I badger them, and I want to get a better idea of what I can take care of by myself.

Fantastic idea. I will also advocate for the use of YouTube for anything home repair related. I worked as a handyman for a few years, and for many mornings, we sat outside the house watching a YouTube video on whatever we were fixing, lol

None because I don’t want to add to my TBR pile right now lol

But if someone really did want to get me books for the holidays, if they managed to find me the Horus Heresy mass markets for Shadows of Treachery, Angel Exterminatus, and everything between Mark of Calth and Vengeful Spirit that would make an absolutely epic present 🔥

I know I’m about to sound like a shill, but audible currently has a lot of warhammer books on sale. Both shadows of treachery and mark of calth at least are only 4 dollars. I really prefer physical but let’s be honest, it’s black library and so hard to find those books in physical form and even their ebooks never go on sale :(

Yeah, I’m just very stubborn lol I’m not a big fan of audio and also would just really love to have a complete mmpb collection of the Heresy. I’m hoping against hope some of these will be part of the next reprints on the WH webshop 😅

I’d like some Stuido Ghibli art books.

Specifically I want My Neighbor Totoro art book.

    I just don’t want a cookbook I’ll never use
