You wanted to read the book, you were excited to crack it open, you came into it with good faith and anticipation… but you ended up dnf-ing it. Which book and why?

Mine was The Maid by Nita Prose. It was for my book club and looked like a fun murder mystery. Instead I got instant manic-pixie-dream-neurodivergent-girl vibes, and I noped out before the crime scene was even found.

Kiss And Make up by Gene Simmons audiobook lasted less than 5 minutes before I hit the Return button on the Libby app. Thank God for libraries, I couldn’t imagine paying for that pulp.

I haven’t read that book but hard agree on the library comment. I have tried such a variety of books (some of them turning into loves) just because I knew that I wouldn’t lose much if I didn’t like it.

Libraries are such an underused resource. I know people still spending $30 on each Audible book when they could be getting them all for free on Libby!

Can’t stand the guy, and I’m not surprised his biography is a DNF.
But credit where credit is due, that is a great title. Not that he would have come up with it.

If you’re interested in reading about Kiss, I recommend Face the Music by Paul Stanley instead.

I feel like he may have realised that the title is excellent, and the rest was always going to risk being a letdown.

There’s one book of his on Audible I noticed he uses an AI to narrate. Not even a sound alike, just a robotic Gene voice. I’m glad I played the demo because I nearly bought it.
