I was a Spanish teacher for 15 years and I usually cringe at the terrible Spanish that the Americans attempt to speak on the show. Don’t get me wrong: they are still understandable, but the sig other is listening to some of the worst grammar… (imagine a 4 year old speaking English)
Clayton, however, has this one impressed. He has made few grammatical errors and has really good oral proficiency and clear oral comprehension. He is great at spontaneous conversation.
I need to know what language learning app he used! I want to work on my French and German.
I think clayton is a nice guy but I don’t think anali acts like she likes him much
I do not speak Spanish fluently, but I have taken enough Spanish to be very impressed with Clayton. I’m impressed when any American can communicate with their non English speaking partner, but Clayton has jokes!
This post makes me think of Chantel, who after being married to a Dominican for 7 years is still making basic level mistakes like pronouncing the “h” in “hacer” 🤨
Didn’t Chantel meet Pedro because he was supposed to teach her Spanish?
Do you not like Ashley’s Spanish? It is very impressive as well.
She conjugates everything in the present tense and her accent makes me laugh out loud. But she speaks so confidently while she’s clearly still learning which is admirable. So short answer: no, but I feel badly saying that.
Yes, I LOVE her confidence with it!! Seriously, cannot emphasize enough that is half of the problem with most people learning another language… But hearing her use every verb in present tense or merely the infinitive is driving me crazy!!
I don’t get accent criticism. It was a disconnect I had in school with teachers who said we needed to speak with their accent. I’ve got a goofy ass Baltimore accent but when I speak Spanish to my in laws they know what I’m saying - just like how when they’re speaking English I can work with their accent.
I taught high school Spanish, and imo Ashley has the skills of someone who has taken 4 years of Spanish. In a spontaneous conversation, she can get her point across but as others have stated on this thread, she doesn’t always use the right tense all the time. She avoids most complex verb phrasing. It is normal for someone who someone who didn’t take Spanish courses in college and for most people who use an app to learn the language. Apps don’t cover everything, of course. All of that considered, I do admire her fluency and confidence for sure.
She doesn’t conjugate her verbs. She sounds confident but the grammar and phonics are really bad.
That’s probably why I understand her Spanish and not Manuel’s Spanish lol it sounds like Spanglish.
If you find out what app he used, share it here, because I’d like to use it to work on Spanish and Greek.
He used Tandem to communicate with the girl (Anali sp?)
I can do without the constant ‘chiqui, chiqui’
And then that weird laugh he does
It’s Kara all over again.
I think he was just highly motivated by wanting to be with Anali and good for him! That’s the most important element in language learning.
Clayton met Ameli (I’m sure I’m spelling her name wrong) on a forgein language learning site. Perhaps you could improve your other languages doing something like that. I’m sure not all of the people on those sites turn into 90 Day Fiancée. Lol
People like op make me not even bother to learn another language 🙄
Anyone that makes fun of someone trying to learn a foreign language is probably just a jealous hater or mean. I agree OP! I wanted to be a Spanish teacher. Clayton is doing excellent and Ashley is really able to communicate as well. Props to them!
Clayton is the only one who correctly conjugates
I was also super impressed by Clayton. I told my husband he might be the best non-native Spanish speaker on this show I’ve seen so far.
I don’t understand Spanish so when I hear Ashely speak in Spanish in her voice, it sounds like a Sim talking 😂😭😭😂it’s no disrespect to her but that’s all I can think of
He met his fiancé on a language learning site. That may explain why his Spanish is good.
This is exactly what I said to my girl. His Spanish is very impressive
