There was definitely some competition there! My first Trek was TOS (many years after first run!), and when I tried TNG I didn’t really like it. I saw people saying it got better after the first few seasons, so I skipped ahead, still felt the same way about it, and ended up quitting. I was thinking that maybe I just wasn’t going to like the newer shows, but decided to give DS9 a try. It got me hooked by the first or second episode, and I’ve been a fan ever since! Later on I did go back to TNG and was able to appreciate it a lot more too.
