I know there are probably a lot of posts out there saying the same thing I am, about how gaming isn’t what it used to be, since publishers are now more focused on making money than keeping a solid player base andaking a solid game.

I have been playing games my whole life from casually to competitively, even going as far as commentating games for leagues and tournaments, so it really breaks my heart when I turn on my PC, and realize I have no drive to play anything.

I end up booting up a random game, but then get no enjoyment out of it. Even when I know I won’t be having that much fun, I still do it; maybe because I have nothing better to do, or maybe I hope that this time I’ll really enjoy playing.

I don’t know it’s just a little rant. I’m posting this just so I get other people’s thoughts on my situation and that of gaming as a whole. I really want to enjoy gaming as much as I used too, but it’s hard at the moment. Do you guys suggest I try a take a break, discover a new genre of gaming, even a new hobby, or something else entirely?

Thanks for listening have and have a good day!

Competitive gaming has ruined gaming culture completely and the fact most people can’t see that is exactly why games are dogshit now and no developer ever holds themselves accountable when the games fail miserably.

Don’t kid yourself, publishers were always focused on making money.

What changed is that in the past, “good game = more money”.

Then it became “micro transactions = more money”. Then “battlepass = more money”

Just try to take a break from gaming. Start with week and then a month. Instead you can try other hobbies in that time

True. Broken games, SBMM, micro transactions and lack of passion behind most recent games made it all so boring. I’m a COD veteran and, guess what, SBMM burned me. Went thru mw2019, tried CW, went back to mw2019. Skipped Vanguard to recoup the price of CW… MW2 2022 made me switch to BF2042 (one of the bottom BF in the franchise…). Been playing it for a year… its ok but man… what happened to fps games… bring us back to 2007… at this point I lost faith in new good games, not sure they willbe good again (in the genres that I like anyway)

This is a you problem. I wish people would understand that. Guys we can’t all do the same thing for 20 years and expect our brains to reward us for such meaningless crap. There are plenty of indie games out there that are worth playing. If you aren’t enjoying it that is in fact a you problem. Go touch grass. I don’t feel this way. Plenty of people do not feel the doom and gloom of so much of the current gaming media.

I think depression is at catastrophic levels of pervasiveness these days and folks are letting it color their perception of their hobbies, confusing feeling demotivated by boredom with feeling bored because they’re not motivated.

I play all types of games and games now just don’t scratch the itch they use to. I thought maybe the older games were better because of nostalgia and maybe I was tripping. However, then I decided to play Prince of Persia the two thrones for the first time and I was blown away with how ahead of its time it was, all I could think about was how I couldn’t wait to get home to play some more of it and when I beat it I was upset there was no more story or new platforming sections, no more stealth or bosses to fight, which is funny considering it’s a Ubisoft title and they been kinda shit lately. Idk, I just feel like back in the day the developers cared more because they knew videogames weren’t mainstream entertainment and they HAD to make a good game or else.

I have a gaming addiction, and it’s been hard to try and find good games even when I play for hours. For example, Roblox (i know people are gonna get mad at me for mentioning Roblox) has no good games on there besides a couple of the shooters, and even those are unbalanced and cash-grabs most of the time. Honestly, I’ve almost completely quit multiplayer games, and only play ones that aren’t super competitive (really hard to find…) since all the lobbies on every multiplayer game (especially shooters, also there are some exceptions but games like them are either really hard to find or dead) are always so toxic and you always get one sweaty kid ruining the game and yapping every time he dies in chat. And nowadays, it feels like sometimes there’s more script kiddies than actual players. One of the greats of gaming, TF2, got absolutely bombarded by bots, and trying to play the game for the first time during that crisis was a huge turn-off for me. Nowadays, all I play are singeplayer games or RPG’s like fallout, starfield, RDR2, etc. Sometimes I’m able to go into a multiplayer game with my friends, but we almost always get targetted by little kids if it has a singular weapon in the game. So mostly we have to just retreat to Gmod and have a server to ourselves.

To sum this up (cause i know a lot of you aint readin allat), to me it feels like there’s no good games anymore, and because of that I just hunker down in singeplayer games because it’s unbearable to play multiplayer nowadays due to many factors, mainly toxicity.
