Not PL related directly, but the rules about handballs are really weird in CL. How do they give THAT as a penalty against Livramento. It came off his f***ing chest for God’s sake. Feel really sorry for him. I just feel it’s going to get even worse for defending teams once Wenger’s new offside law comes into the picture.

This might be an unpopular opinion but new handball rules (alongside next years champions league format and even FFP if we wanna go that far) are all designed to favour the biggest teams. UEFA don’t want a competitive competition, they want one they can manage.

Generally speaking, better teams attack more, have more touches in opposition box and therefore earn more penalties. Extend this to the new interpretation of handball in UCL and I don’t see how this doesn’t favour the best teams. I’m sure UEFA much prefer when the big teams make it through to the knockouts every year to help keep money flowing.

Or maybe there’s no ulterior motive…but I’m struggling to come up with a reason for the change.

Honestly at this point, you might as well aim for an arm rather than the goal

I would say that’s exactly what Dembele did, but it’s just as likely his atrocious crossing ability is at fault

TRUE and it’s little wonder that players race after the ref after every ACCIDENTAL handball. Next it’ll be sin bins to prevent players exploiting refs and VAR’s inability to distinguish ACCIDENTAL from intentional handball, Level from Offside, and protecting the ball from deliberate attempts to hurt players. Have any of them ever actually PLAYED football ? VAR and officiating in general is a complete disaster now which is killing football.

As Newcastle fan, i don’t feel aggrieved one bit. Here’s why:

    1. It’s group of death. It was expected to be difficult. We smashed them at SJP and like it or not, PSG was expected to win the group. As things stand now, they have to beat Dortmund away to surely progress, which I doubt Dortmund will particularly like considering that will drop them to 2nd position.

    2. We still have good chance to go thru and can guarantee EL with a win over Milan. It will be tricky, but we can do it. If we win and PSG doesn’t, we’ll go thru in CL! Check out our lineup, not so long ago some of these players were relegation fodder! We weren’t even expected to come out of this group given how inexperienced our players are on European stage, we were in 4th pot for the draw, so to be in position where we can still advance is amazing!

    3. Let’s put ourselves in PSG position. They were expected to win the group or at least qualify with ease. If this penalty was not given for us as underdogs at SJP, we would be mad.

So, it was really unlucky for Tino, but these things sometimes happen. Ball did hit his elbow, there’s no doubt about it. With deflections now not being counted, it’s refs decision to give a penalty. Fine. We’ll learn and next season maybe be in 3rd pot, step by step we’ll get there.

    P.s.

We should’ve played better, but can’t be unhappy, with injuries we have it’s still amazing result and we’re still in with a chance.

Did anyone catch that clown on BT Sport commentating? Said something along the lines of “under Howard Webb’s directive, a penalty like that would never be given in the premier league”. As if the pl isn’t littered with even dumber mistakes.

I’m a Geordie Gunner with primarily Newcastle supporting mates. I like to see the North East teams do well outside of Arsenal. This was so conflicting for me haha.

To paraphrase Newcastle fans after the Arsenal game a few weeks ago…

“You win some you lose some. One things for sure, you won’t hear Newcastle fans complaining like the Arsenal fans are now, when a decision goes against them. Just part of the game”

Exactly. You don’t hear Newcastle fans acting like little bitches. Some are rightfully saying it was the wrong decision. Which it clearly was. Thanks for pointing that out mate.

Kind of funny how petty Arsenal fans are in this thread. Rather than wanting to see rules be written clearly and implemented correctly after being wronged themselves, they just want to see everyone suffer from the same shit refereeing.

No wonder nothing will ever be done about the state of refereeing when people just celebrate shit decisions because their club either wasn’t involved or they copped a bad decision weeks prior.
