I only recently started experiencing this, and it’s absolutely terrible in most games. It’s a graphical glitch that just makes everything judder and skip - it’s not graphical performance, because it’s nice and smooth between. Idk about frame rate, feels like 45-60 other than the issue at hand. It doesn’t do it on super old games like Half-life, but anything that actually uses some power is a ridiculous shit fest of juddering and skips. I’m in the Division character creator and you can clearly tell its running smooth, but as the character goes through it’s idle animation the head just appear as much as a whole inch from where it should, and everything else skips as well.

Garuda Dragonized, up to date Kernel 6.6.1-zen1-1-zen Ryzen 5 5500U GeForce mx450 8gb ram 1tb SSD

My home partition defaulted to BTRFS during install, which I suspect but idk. It’s highly annoying, and not something I’ve ever dealt with on Arch so I’m sure it’s something Garuda did different.

It’s the 545 driver, nvidia has not enabled support for explicit sync in this version (I read here that there are internal discussion about adding it in soon-ish).

If your game is running at the same refresh rate as your monitor enabling vsync might help, I was playing Last Epoch and was having stutters even at a higher FPS count than 60 (my monitor’s refresh rate), enabling vsync solved the issue.

I changed it from Optimus to dkms and that helped a ton, seems there might still be a microlag I can see every 3-5 seconds but it’s barely noticable. For most of the games I play I can deal with this for now.

V-Sync options for me make a big difference from game to game for me using Xorg. For example Apex Legends with V-Sync on it’s an unplayable mess stuttering horrendously to the point where the dxvk performance spikes vastly. Disabling V-Sync on that title specifically makes a world of difference. Just my two cents.

I’ve noticed that as well, it seems title dependent but some games are a trash fire with vsync and are butter smooth with no other changes but vsync disabled. I guess with the ridiculous amount of translation going on (proton, dxvk, etc) it makes sense that something would end up titanically borked here and there.
