Thinking of going for a base 991.1 for my car of choice and was wondering how feasible and reliable the 991.1 is going to be in a daily driving scenario? I think I’ll be putting in a decent amount of miles on the car similar to how much I put in my Focus ST.

    Reliable all day long. Provided you can afford the mileage, a 911 is a great daily/commuter. You only go around once.

    You can definitely do this. It’s going to be more expensive than driving a ford focus… but you only live once so just decide if that cost is worth it to you at this point

    Yes. Super easy. I had a 2001 996 TT as a daily driver. Best commuter EVER! If I still had it, I’d be putting snow tires on it and driving it around in the Colorado winter. 😁

    While I have a Macan too, I split my daily drives roughly equally between it and my 991.1 and it’s fantastic. The 991 is very comfy and drives well for a dd even at 94k miles. 🙂

    You’ll be fine, consider a “S” if you can swing it. Also the 14 way seats are more comfortable than the 18 way.

    I did a 74 mile (round trip) commute 3-4 days a week in my 991.1 for about a year. No complaints at all. Before we moved, my round trip was 32 miles and I did that for years, even in snow a couple times. Fantastic car.

    My 991.1 C2S is my only car, and it’s an absolute sublime daily driver. I can sit in rush hour traffic in it and not be bothered one bit.

    Awesome! Do it!! I daily my Macan, but the Cayman (manual) is also a pleasure to commute in. I am in the Bay Area as well. If you can commute the 280 instead of the 101, it will be that much more pleasurable. Maybe an occasional drive home on an alternate route that involves PCH or Skyline (and a burger at Alice’s) would be a blast!

      I do end up taking the 280 more just because it is a shorter drive some days! I think the Bay Area comments are giving me a lot of confidence in the car. Now to finalize on the deal haha

    I daily a 991.2 C2 and put about 2,000 miles a month on it between commute and pleasure.

    These cars are built to be driven. I have no complaints and there’s not another daily I would prefer.

    I think some people are missing the point here. Obviously yes you should drive your cars and not worry about the depreciation, and yes, it should be fairly reliable.

    But if you’re driving 80 miles I’m going to assume you’re doing at least a moderate amount of highway cruising, for which I think a 991 is not exactly the best. I drove my base 991 on the highway (in Michigan) a fair bit and there are some downsides. Cabin noise made it tough to have phone calls and while the suspension is excellent, it’s still very firm. It can also be a bit unnerving in inclement weather with everyone around you driving their brodozers.

    It’s not the sexy option, but I much prefer my Macan in pretty much all longer distance driving scenarios

      Is the cabin noise that bad? My Focus ST had pretty rough cabin noise and I thought the base 991 would be a lot more plush to ride.

        I guess I can’t say exactly how it compares since I haven’t driven a Focus ST, but I would certainly not consider a 991 plush. There’s not a lot of sound deadening material in the cabin, in order to keep weight down, and the 911 has always been developed from the ground up as a sports car, not a luxury car.

    I’d go automatic if you spend a lot of time in start stop traffic. Clutches are a little heavy on manual Porsches 9*7 gen anyway, not sure sure about 991, I get knee pain after an hour or two of start stop traffic in my manual

    I daily my 992 gts. 30 miles a day. With a full performance exhaust and wouldn’t have it any other way. When traffic clears my smile widens. I’m tired of boring cars.
