So I’m hearing that the new OLED uses a Samsung display, and the LE uses some Chinese display that is known for failure and or dead pixels on arrival or later on? Should I just return my LE? I couldn’t decide between LE and regular because I didn’t want the red, I wanted all black, but ended up going with the LE specifically because it’s supposed to be Super limited (which it definitely doesn’t seem to be) and I figured maybe it would have a tiny bit more resale later on when tens of thousands of oleds are out into the world, but it seems more and more like a mistake now? I don’t understand why they would use different displays.
“Some Chinese company” is Beijing Oriental Electronics, one of the largest manufacturers of OLED and LCD displays in the world.
The BOE panels in the LE models have reports of dead pixels on some of them.
The Samsung panels in the non-LE models have reports of a green tint.
Neither is perfect. Just go with whatever one you think is best. There’s no sense in buying a limited edition solely because it’s limited, especially so if you like how the regular ones look more.
Wow. Where are you hearing that?
The truth is that the BOE panel is actually superior to the Samsung one. Both panels have QC issues, right now, though. With the BOE, people are seeing some with dead pixels. With the Samsung, people are seeing some with excessive mura and/or green tint. If you experience either, you should RMA, but given two pristine units from both suppliers, Samsung actually has the lesser of the two.
LE?
Back to the day when LCD monitor was a newly technology and we spent hundreds to buy a 14”, if you got less than 4 dead pixel there will be no return or refund. And now fast forward we are looking a perfect screen.
Technology actually improved a lot, hope OP’s LE will be trouble free.
I clearly remember this 4 dead pixels thing.
I remember buying my first 720p monitor, which had something like 2 or 3 red-stuck pixels, and I couldn’t return it.
Return it. Taking up another’s RMA
If it makes you feel any better I got my LE yesterday and it’s been flawless! Lots of LE owners have had no trouble but obviously haven’t been reporting it because they are enjoying their new machines :)
my LE has zero problems. The majority of the 99.99% who received the Limited Edition (LE) didn’t experience any dead pixels. It’s just that those who did have dead pixels are the ones talking about it here. It gives the impression that there are many cases when, in reality, it’s not the case because everyone who didn’t have issues didn’t come here to discuss it
This is good and thaank you for those who aalready purchase the steam deck so it gives more time for the manufacturer to improve the 2nd batch
