Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking of getting a 3DS to play three games: Marion & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and Zelda: a Link between Worlds.

I guess my only option is to buy a refurbished 3DS at GameStop or some other 3rd party. Regardless just curious on people’s opinions on if it would be worth it to get a 3DS for these or other games? Also how does the 3D tech hold up?

Make sure to get the “new Nintendo 3DS” for the latest version of the console. I myself am planning to get one off ebay, replace the battery myself and get…*ahem*Those so ever legal 500 games in one off Amazon.

The 3D tech is pretty good but not worth the huge battery drainage IMO. Also Eye strain.

Due to the dual and touch screen aspects, both the DS and 3DS occupy an interesting niche. The ideal way to play those games is still usually the native system. Unless they come out with some sort of dual screen and touch screen emulation device, it might not be a bad idea to pick up a 3DS, specifically a New 3DS, either XL or the regular one. Installing Custom Firmware takes the whole experience to the next level.

I still play mine on occasion.

You can also easily mod them, which opens up emulation.

I don’t like the 3D so always leave the slider down, but I have an astigmatism.

Definitely get one of the XL models

I still keep my 3DS beside my bed to pick up for some quick gaming to this day. I’m a collector with a lot of systems, and I don’t think I’ve played any as much as that one.

I’d argue it’s worth it just for Zelda alone, especially if you loved LttP.

Didn’t they stop supporting the 3DS in the nintendo store? Does the switch have any backwards compatibility? At this point you could probably play those games on an emulator. I don’t think a 3ds would be worth it but if the price is reasonable and it’s something you want to do then just go for it.

3ds is one of the easiest machines to hack. Takes 15 minutes to 2 hours, depending on what firmware it is running, but the modding community is pretty big right now for it. There is hShop (replicates eShop but everything is free and you can download homebrew and custom stuff there aswell), CTGP 7 is a mod to mk7 which adds lots of new levels, online play, game modes, items and character skins. Lots of other cool things aswell, those were just at the top of my head

absolutely, you can also mod it to play DS games on it, the library is awesome.

Just advance wars dual strike would make it worth it, but you also get lots of great pokemon games, ace attorney games and some of the most fun rpgs.

I love the 3ds, it’s full of great games. Mario kart 7, Dragon Quest 8, dragon Quest 7, Donkey Kong country return, Super Mario Maker, fantasy life, Ocarina of time, super Mario 3d land, plus all of the DS games… there’s really a lot of great games, but some of them are pretty expensive.

I got a 3ds xl a couple of months ago and so far, my experience was fantastic! I got the A Link Between Worlds edition, so I already had that preinstalled, and I also go Ocarina of Time and Majoras mask, as well as mk7 and super Mario 3d land. I’ve really enjoyed the games on it, and, despite a poor reputation, I’ve found the 3d effect to be great. i really think you should get one. I got mine off of ebay, because gamestop is way too expensive, but if you’re willing to spend a bit more, then gamestop is a good option.
