I recently threw a meter on my unit and discovered that at idle it is drawing about 220 watts. When playing music it in increases by 5-10 watts. I was under the impression that this being a Class A amp that it would be drawing the 310 watts (or near it) listed on the rear panel. I should also mention that this is a gray market unit from Japan that is being run through a 1800 watt step down transformer (USA to Japan). Just curious if any other owners have experienced this same amount of power consumption that I am encountering.

    It might be drawing the 310W when playing under full load but you’re right that a significant amount of power is drawn at idle for class A

    A class A amplifier is inefficient, this is why it becomes so hot, the output transistors output are always running fully on, even no music signal.
