Hello,
Looking for LGBTQ friendly countries that have decent left leaning people, good food, fun scene, nature, entertainment, quality of life. My wife (35F) & I (33F) are looking for recommendations. We have a sizeable nest egg, enough to move to almost anywhere & nice passive income. We would prefer to get a golden visa or something similar to get PR in that country but would need to keep our USC. We don’t need to work and our passive income will be coming in from the US. We will also keep our US residencies and go back annually. We are of eastern asian decent speak a few languages each. Not looking to work at other countries and can pay for healthcare in new country. We could also purchase in this new place so finding housing would be easier. We do travel a lot and would prefer a country we don’t have to be there most of the year. We like western countries or first world countries but are open to others. Thank you in advance.
I’d suggest norway, south, North, or central. Avoid the east and west. But you should travel to see how you like a place before finalizing such a call. Not entirely sure about the residency, but you can have dual citizenship
Tel Aviv
No one in their right mind is traveling to Tel Aviv in the next 5 years
-
Tel Aviv isn’t bad right now

Depending on where the LGBTIQ+ comes from, Tel Aviv might be way safer and inclusive for them.
That you don’t get point two tells me you’re a straight white man speaking for the LGBTIQ+ community.

Barcelona. Beautiful setting (between sea and mountains), incredible architecture, vibrant arts scene, LGBTQ friendly
OP, you should ask this in an LGBTQ sub I think. People here give weird answers, I would not live in Zurich as a queer person for example. It’s either them not really helping or bashing other immigrants that they feel superior to. They won’t give you any insight because the majority here are straight people
Madrid sounds like it would work for you!
Amsterdam.
I don’t know the answer to this but I wish you all the best. We are in almost 2024 and sexual orientation shouldn’t be a question anymore
Most straight people would never think of it bc it will never impact them. They have never and will never understand. We would love to travel and not worry about such things but it’s not how the world is for us. Even in very progressive places we’ve encountered discrimination & hate. We love the US and are expats a few times over but the rhetoric growing here is alarming. We would want an exit plan if shit hits the fan. We already bi coastal live in LA & NY.
I know. I’m from NYC and have had friends going back to the 89s when things were really tough. I saw went they went through. Still shouldn’t be happening. I’m sorry.
If your concern is visa I think Thailand should fit the bill.
Most developed countries are out of the options since most of them have tight immigration, and since you are not working you are not going to be building permanent residency.
I believe you are at a very odd spot, you are rich enough to retire early but not rich enough to buy residency. Let’s say in Singapore you can actually have a residency if you have a family office but that requires like 200 millions. I don’t think you are at that bracket, but if you are, go for it, Singapore is a great home base to travel within Asia and it is pretty darn safe and well-managed.
Berkley, CA USA or Key West, FL USA?
A decade ago I’d say San Fran, but that place is a sh** hole now.
“We do travel a lot and would prefer a country we don’t have to be there most of the year.”
Looking for a country we don’t have to live in.
EDIT: Happy Cake Day, Did you sign up today just to post this??
I mean, Cologne or Berlin seem to fit the bill. Cologne is very LGBT-friendly.
OP please don’t listen to these people. Yes, what happened on news years eve was shocking but right wingers now paint it as if there are hordes of violent Muslims raping women all over the place. Sexual violence has gone down in Germany, not up and it’s not any less safe than living in the US. It’s of course nowhere really safe for women, but these people don’t actually care about women’s rights, they just use it for their racism
We found a Green supporter… nice.
paint it as if there are hordes of violent Muslims raping women all over the place.
Paint? It is not a paint… I want to write more about it but these days if I write something small things about muslims, some subreddits ban me, so I will stop to comment more.
I think OP is avoiding such a place as cologne seeing as they are women and the hordes of Muslim men seeking asylum raping women might be a put off. Honestly I don’t know where they can go in Europe there is a huge influx of these immigrants mostly from a specific region that are violent, anti Semitic, criminals. I lean left but all the shit going on in Europe is a result of ridiculous immigration policies. Big reason I came back to the US.
Vancouver, excepting for entertainment/ night life. But the nature makes up for it. That said really HAS to be no object.
San Francisco
Puerto Vallarta
I’m straight but I have a lot of LGBT friends and have lived in a few different countries so I’m going to say: London or Madrid. Both very LGBT friendly and big cities, with lots to do, a lot of expats, good food, and with good connections for traveling to see friends and family. Nature is probably not the forte on these cities. Stockholm is better in this aspect but I don’t know what is like for a queer couple after the arrival of all the muslim immigrants.
I should note that Madrid tends to elect government more to the right of the political spectrum and the nationalists have been doing a lot of demonstrations recently.
There’s no utopia out there, I guess but start asking around in LGBT subreddits about these cities and of course visit before making a decision! Good luck!
