I am thinking of giving steamdeck lcd to my son so he can play Fortnite while away. we have som xbox series controlers around so controls are not an issue (I tried playing using steamdeck controls and it was difficult for this kind of game, more so for a kid) , but I am not sure how stable the game through xcloud is and what’s the amount of lag, how often it disconnects, that type of thing. he will be on wifi, but I have my doubts. he is 10 so doesnt need ultra-competitive play performance
any experience shared is welcome
I just got my OLED with wifi 6e and hooked it up to the 6ghz band and xcloud was amazing. I didn’t feel like there was any lag, there was some slight artifacting that would change in quality slightly, but I was able to kill people.
For my experience (not on steam Deck) it’s actually playable if you have good internet. One downside is that sometimes you need to wait on the queue if a lot of people is trying to play
I honestly have never heard of xcloud before now so I can’t speak on it. I do however have experience with Fortnite using Amazon Luna (free with Amazon prime) and it works surprisingly well even with my crappy Internet and connection. It looks really good and the latency was surprisingly good too, unless I’m at the farthest point from the router then it’ll freeze occasionally.
I’m not sure what you found difficult about this type of game with the steam deck controls but it works just like a regular controller by default.
It’s fine if you have good wifi. However, there are often queues to play at high traffic times.
I haven’t tried xcloud on the oled but it was unuseable for me on the og steam deck. It works wonderfully on the rog ally though.
