Edit: I meant to say a GAMING PC in the title
I feel like im in such the minority here, which isn’t bad. I’ve never had a “gaming” PC. I saved up and bought a MacBook laptop for college years ago. The only time I would game on a PC would have been coolmath.com back in the computer lab days. I’ve been a console boy my whole life. I play on PS only, but wanted something to emulate old games and play some AAA titles portablely. I picked up a Switch OLED about 7 months ago, but between the high cost of nearly all games and how restrictive it feels, I wanted more.
All of this is so foreign to me. I’ve played emulators on my phone before, but that’s about my extent of knowledge. Getting a SD and seeing things mentioned like “Proton” and “TDP” sounds like a foreign language to me, lol.
I’m learning, slowly. I’ve got Emudeck installed and I’ve got a decent understand of Desktop mode. I’m not even 30 but I sound like an old man. How many of you are like me? I’ve learned many things only due to owning a Steam Deck!
Me and you man we are the same person. I own a switch and a Mac and know little to nothing about computer protons emulation etc. I am learning. I love handheld gaming I live in a city where I rent a room and I don’t own a tv so handheld gaming it’s perfect for me. Steam deck is perfect. I wish I could run some android games but for the rest it’s perfect
I had a PC but it was so crappy I could only play RimWorld and Stardew Valley on it.
Steam deck is my main console. Don’t have a console or a PC. I grew up poor so I played on my phone. Have money to buy a console or a PC now but honestly being portable to me matters the most plus the fact it’s a hand held lol.
All I ever owned was a laptop, I mean I used Linux before but it was just Ubuntu on a tablet of mine. I didn’t even know what I was doing then but thankfully the Steamdeck is a lot clearer to use than installing it all myself.
Me!! I have a MacBook Pro, steam deck oled, and a switch. I just got the deck and it was my first one, so I bought an Xbox controller to use it docked. Well lo and behold it needed an update and Xbox doesn’t have an app for macs 😑😑😑. Luckily, my first friend has a windows laptop and she let me use it to update the controller.
Coolmath is actually a goated way to be introduced to games!
Yep. My steam deck is my pc lol
My PC is 12 years old so I don’t think that counts anymore. One of the main reasons I got a steamdeck
I’ve never owned a desktop PC dedicated to gaming. Always used consoles. Steam Deck helped bridge the gap for me since I didn’t want to buy/build a PC and get sucked into that world. I get the allure but needed something simple and something I can do on the couch. It was a complete game changer for me.
PS5, MacBook (photo editing), steam deck my combo
Me too. I went from PS4 to deck with no other gaming PC before. Considered PS5 but the enormous back catalogue of Steam games swayed me and I have no regrets.
I stopped upgrading my PC like 8 years ago and my last GPU is rx570 8GB. I just game on consoles these days since opening a PC takes time like ages. That fast boot and sleep function really sold me compared with other windows handhelds.
I have a gaming pc but for most major games, I’m glad that they can be played now for a much more reasonable price. Also if someone really wanted to they could get a dock and plug in a monitor, keyboard, etc and use it like a desktop when not carrying it around.
Not never (I had a PC in the early 2000s) but not for a long time. The SD enabled me to play a lot of games and catch up without having to invest in an unwieldy and expensive machine.
I own a PC but nothing I can’t really game on that I just use to edit video and audio as well as use as a Plex server. It’s just a shitty Acer “laptop in a desktop” unit. The Steam Decks out perform it by double. One day when I get more money, I may buy another one to use as a desktop
