Nick calling Devin piggy and then talking about fat . Even though she looks absolutely fine . It’s extremely disrespectful

Not to mention the massive age gaps between both of them 23 Devin to 31 . When you are 23 you are still in your formative years and Nick trying to date her raises a lot of questions .

I would end such a relationship but if I was actually fat I’d reflect on it and hit the gym and start a diet.

When he first said it, I was like “well, culturally they don’t look at ‘fat’ as an insult, just as a fact.” But after she explained that it was offensive and he still said it to her and in front of her family… he’s an asshole, no excuses.

No, as a Korean, I’ll say, Koreans absolutely do see that as an insult. Trust me. There are folks in Korea and America with eating disorders and/or body dysmorphia for that very reason. Nick is a pos.

I find his behavior, extremely rude and disrespectful She informed him in Korea that is not nice and please don’t say it and he doesn’t care and the audacity to say it to her parents and family calling Americans fat, eating greasy food and then she’s a little piggy.? oh I would’ve smacked him in the face. If I was the father. I’m sorry that’s going way too far that’s not cultural. That’s being an asshole. And the age difference I agree he’s very immature for 32 and he’s with a younger woman because unfortunately, she has no self-esteem imo!!!

He doesn’t respect her as a person since he won’t stop saying it in front of her family after telling him.

If it was actually a cute little nickname with some personal story behind it then sure. People have weird pet names for each other… But it’s not. He’s just calling her fat. And it’s not ignorance because she’s expressed she doesn’t like it, told him it’s rude and asked him not to. He just doesn’t care. More importantly he understands how rude it is (based on how he made sure to say he doesn’t think of Americans as fat) but he just enjoys it too much

“Massive age gap” ? That’s a mere 8 years. When she’s 30 he’ll be 38. Don’t be dramatic. But yes the whole piggy thing is just crass. There is nothing endearing about that.

He’s a dick. If I’m her father I’d be furious. Didn’t Nick have a Instagram post where he’s asking, why are people angry if he’s using the word piggy? Is it because you’re fat? Something like that. He’s a jerk. Don’t like him and both are gross open-mouth talking people that are so incredibly boring.

I’ve lived in Asia for 15 years (Korea, Japan, Taiwan) and yes it’s really normal for people to talk this way. I’ve had strangers come up to me randomly to tell me how fat I am. The younger generation all know and agree it’s rude, but it happens constantly from people of all ages. It sucks to live here sometimes. I’ve developed a thick skin, and learning the language has helped me tell people politely to stfu lol

I’m the daughter of Korean immigrants to the US. Yes it is normal for Korean people to talk like this. It is normal even for strangers to comment on your weight (call you fat or compliment you for being thin). Korean people are very blunt about weight. Rates of obesity are very low in Korea.

I’m 5’1” and when I was at 120lbs was commonly called fat/chubby/piggy/etc. Earlier this year I lost 20 lbs and now that I’m 100lbs I am “normal”. For me to be “thin” and receive compliments I would have to lose another 10lbs.

With all due respect, Devin’s BMI looks like she is probably considered overweight by US standards. By Korean standards she is very chubby.

I initially thought he was referring to her coloring, she is very pink toned. But then he grabs her tummy tonight … yikes! She said the first episode that she told him it was offensive, tho it sounds like she obviously hasn’t put her foot down about it. I think dad might put his foot, not down, but up that Korean’s ass.

I think a lot of this has to do with cultural differences. In East Asia there is blatant public shaming of people who don’t fit thin body standards. It’s especially bad in South Korea. Look at how people in K pop groups will faint on stage because they don’t eat enough trying to keep themselves thin enough to not get ripped apart. Many trendy clothing brands only have one size because you’re expected to keep yourself within those sizes (although this is less of a struggle because people are much more homogeneous than in Western countries). He comes from a culture without acceptance of plus size bodies, as well as healthier food in general and smaller portion sizes. A regular size fast food meal in Asia is comparable to a kids meal in the US.
It’s possible he’s just a jerk, but it’s also possible that it’s just a cute nickname and Devin doesn’t have an issue with it, she had several plush pigs on display in her room, so maybe she just likes pigs so he called her piggy? It’s hard to tell since we know production directs a lot of these interactions.

I originally thought it was ok when I thought it was just a sort of cutesy inside joke that she was fine with it, but after finding out she actually finds it hurtful and has asked him to stop but he keeps doing it anyways I think it’s extremely disrespectful.
