Mullvad offers to use their DNS severs, which is great! However, in my daily use, I have at least four options to specify which DNS to use:

  • I can set a DNS in my home router.
  • I can specify a DNS in my operating system (e.g. in Windows under “Network and internet” or my Android phone).
  • I can set a DNS in my web browser (e.g. Firefox, Chrome, … in the privacy/security tab).
  • I can use the MullvadVPN app on my desktop or phone.

Is there any rule that determines the order of precedence of these four settings or which traffic obeys which of the four settings?
