Those who have niche communities that aren’t available elsewhere likely remained. Several of my subscribed subs are completely gone or functionally extinct due to lack of participation. Anecdotally I find reduced participation in other subs, people seem less willing to have a discussion. Personally I’ve moved on to Lemmy/KBin/etc. and spend most of my time there now. But “crushed”?
