I’d like to upgrade my monitor to a 3440x1440 165Hz. First thought was that I’d have to upgrade my GPU to keep up… but I’m not sure how my build will handle a newer card.
Current build:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X 3.6 GHz 6-core
- GPU: MSI Armor GTX 1060 6Gb
- RAM: Kingston HyerX 16Gb (2x8) DD4 3200 CL16
- Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX (PCIe 3.0 x16)
- PSU: Thermaltake Smart SE 630W
- SSD: Crucial MX300 525GB 2.5"
- Monitor: LG 29WK600 2560x1080 75Hz
My goal would be to game at 3440x1440, while making use of the 165Hz. So that would mean at least a RTX 3080, if I’ve checked benchmarks correctly.
Should I future-proof and get an even more powerful GPU? Would my CPU become a bottleneck at that point? And if I upgraded down the line, would my motherboard even support all that? What about the PSU? Or is there an even more glaring bottleneck that I’m not even seeing?
It kinda snowballed. So I was wondering, if I did get a new monitor + RTX 3080 (or better?), what would be a good upgrade path for my build? Could I go for a bit without changing anything else? At what point will the other parts become a problem?
Ty in advance ❤️
