And Last Week Tonight with Jon Oliver.

For the late shows I like Kimmel well enough, but he just doesn’t have the same charisma as Colbert.

I know this is a matter of personal preference but I absolutely cannot stand John Oliver. Every joke feels so tangential and contrived that it’s nearly a non sequitur à la Family Guy cutaway gags, and almost none of them ever seem to land for me. Then again, I think the target demographic is moreso Gen X than younger generations so maybe that’s why.

          (oops, it’s John, not Jon)

That makes sense and I’ve felt the same with a few bits they’ve done recently, and they harp on things a little too long sometimes (Lyndon Johnson’s nuts, for example), but I still think he/the writers make compelling arguments and present them in interesting ways.

It’s amusing and informative, perfect for laugh-crying about the state of the world.

Yeah I feel this, and I feel like it’s gotten worse. It’s often borderline “omg so randumb!!1!eleven! Holds up spork” type shit

I think people underrate the other hosts on that show. Desi Lydic, Jordan Klepper, Ronny Chieng, and Josh Johnson are all outstanding. Store brand Rob Riggle guy is OK.

Seth Meyers. I actually think he’s a better late-night host than Colbert, though I like them both. Seth is much more willing to let his staff take risks and do silly experiments that may or may not work. I think landing the Late Show gig infected Colbert with “Smart White Guy Whose Success Renders Him Unable to Smell His Own Farts” syndrome. Not that he’s not a talented comedian, he is, but after the show found its footing it started to feel pretty same-y to me.
