If you are afraid of that, then you have already put the ai into the same box as human. This is like saying thank you to the door when you open it. That’s wierd, until you start believing the door is sentient, or has human characteristics.
Have you dealt with customers lately? More and more they dont treat you as a human. Not just the regular nastiness, but like they bark simple commands at you like you would a voice activated screen.
Not at this scale I assure you. Theres lots of things it could be blamed on, and its probably a combination rather than any one thing, but I am simply desperate for that not to be me.
I’ve done customer jobs on and off for nearly 20 years, and it is definitely getting creepy. I’ve had all sorts of rudeness and physical attacks and anything in between, but honestly theres some spookiness to it now. They dont think they’re better than you, or that you’re so far beneath them you don’t warrant consideration, they clearly don’t recognise you as a fellow conscious being.
I’m gonna be honest, I don’t think it is being polite to the robots we’ll eventually kill in the coming Butlerian Jihad that is keeping you human, I think it’s your humanity in the first place. Doesn’t hurt that you have years of XP dealing with the receiving end so you know how it feels of course, coincidentally same, and I’m still nice to staff, but not to those fucking clanker spies.
Yeah, I’m as polite as can be, and I’m very conscious of it because I have kids and I want them to follow my example. I don’t have an Alexa, but I’ll go places that do, and I’m not concerned that me giving it a command will somehow warp a behavior I’ve had my whole life, and that’s excluding the fact that it’s a tube with a speaker in it.

The whole world is weird man.
I’m glad i haven’t, and while I never see that behaviour in person, I don’t doubt it exists. But it’s existed for a long long time.
