    I think the proper word is pay-to-win.

    Free-to-play is similar but not inherently pay-to-win.

      I think they were aiming at “Freemium”, as in nominally “free” except where the entire game is designed around getting you to spend money. In such a style, the game itself is an advertisement.

      Whereas P2W might not be that way, and only unlock something - like it’s free up the last world when all of a sudden you have to pay to finish it off.

          I mean… P2W can be a scam, as too can P2P, and ofc most games these days are scams, but they do not have to be.

          But Freemium yes, that one already implies scam just with that phrase, absolutely. “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”!
