So Lemmy only parses Markdown internally, but never when it comes in from outside.
/kbin does as Misskey and the Forkeys do and parses just about all Markdown that’s being thrown at it, no matter from where.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
“Outside” as in kbin or mastodon? I assume the latter?
Nope, but that can have a whole lot of reasons.
Your replies aren’t shown as replies to the comments you replied to, by the way, but as new comments to the original post.
@Manucode That’s because I’ve posted them as such.
How about now?
This appears as a reply to my previous comment. As Lemmy doesn’t necessarily show comments in chronological order, your previous replies were all over the place.
And what if I reply to your comment without mentioning you?
Still shows up as a reply.
Okay, good to know. Then I can remove the automatically added mention.

Downvoted the first post because I only see bare markdown. Upvoted the third one because formatting works.

The original post was made by a mastodon account. The correctly formatted comment by a lemmy account. Insterestingly, unlike mastodon and lemmy, kbin displays the formatting of the original post almost correctly. Only the comment is wrong.
“Outside” as in _everything_ that isn’t Lemmy.
Unless there’s something in italics in this comment.
Can you see my Kbin comment? I can only see it on Kbin itself, neither on Mastodon nor on Lemmy.
