i really wish i had the time and money to take the train more often. this was taken the last time i rode amtrak in 2023.
i also wish you could open the windows and get a clear view, but understand why they don’t let you lol.

Is it “starlight” because the sun is technically a star?
according to wikipedia, it’s apparently a combo of two previous lines, coast daylight, and starlight. but to your point, i suppose the name is still technically correct
I used to ride that one between my Seattle and Oakland friend groups. I also once took Amtrak all the way to Seattle from the middle of Ohio with no sleeper. If I wasn’t travelling with a frisky new partner it would have been quite miserable.
These days I am liking trains more than ever, the ones in the UK and Europe aren’t perfect but even their worst are a better ride than Amtrak. Would love to see the Coast Starlight route again from the seat of a better train though.
seattle to ohio is quite the trip. i’ve only ever taken the empire builder from minneapolis to seattle once in my life as a kid and it’s for sure completely uneventful for a majority of it. still, wouldn’t mind doing it again at least once to relive the nostalgia…
maybe one day we’ll get good trains in the states. one can dream.
I don’t remember much about the view, blame the frisky partner. But yeah, would love to see good passenger trains in the US someday.
