Assuming i never had to call anyone more than a few miles from me anyway, how practical would it be to stop having a phone altogether and just use MeshCore or Meshtastic for short range communication? What troubles would i run into from not having a phone?

I figure i could even buy radios for people i need to talk to and with no phone bill this would pay for itself in about a year.

Yeah for your day to day, email can work. For a specific friend in distance who’s similarly geeky, meshtastic or any LoRa mesh can work sometimes, for bytes of data, and only really text. And if they’re more than one hop away it might not always work.

I wish more people had mesh gear but it’s mostly hobbyist right now, and your literal mileage will vary depending on where you are (and line of sight).
