these days mostly my forestry career because my current career is as an engineer in aerospace. it was a very big career change and a terrifying risk at the time. i had only gotten up to college algebra at that point, so getting through all the math required for engineering was pretty daunting. thankfully it all worked out and i cant imagine being anything besides an engineer now.
That I am a physically strong active fat person. It used to bother me that people would be surprised about it, now it’s just whatever.
The combo of working in STEM while loving to read. They are not mutually exclusive! I love math and books
That’s weird to me. Most of the techies I worked with back when I marketed for tech firms in Ottawa were voracious readers.
I haven’t met many, but the few I did compensated largely by the amount each read.
I’m not sure if it would be the poly stuff, the bi/pan stuff, the fact I play tabletop RPGs, or the bewildering variety of teas that I usually have lying around the place.

I’ve slowed down with age, naturally, but it’s still my identity.
That’s normal but not nearly as talked about as it should be in the community. When I was 23 and poly I was dating like a 23 year old lol, but in my 30s there’s a lot more that a potential partner has to compete with and I’ve grown much more discerning.

My age. It’s not uncommon for people to assume I’m a lot younger than I actually am. At least once a year I get a comment where someone mistakes me for a high school senior. I’m almost 32. It probably doesn’t help that I’m only 5 feet tall.

Out of necessity or just for fun?
Sorta both. I had food but they kept getting into it. One of them shat all over my dishes. I didn’t want to just kill them and not eat them.
That my mom is dead. I’m not old enough for people to really consider that that stage of life might have happened to me yet.
Also, that I’m hard of hearing. I’m in my early 30s, speak well, and don’t look disabled. It’s honestly like a superpower how fast people forget when I tell them I’m a lip reader or am (or am not) wearing hearing aids. Sometimes them speaking louder and to my face lasts a whole 2 sentences.
One friend was surprised that I’m aroace… the fifth time I told them.
Sometimes people have selective hearing wrt things.
I’ve lived in a lot of interesting places
That up until I moved I spent a lot of time in the garage working on a racecar and was at the race track 3 out of 4 weekends a month.
I’m male and have my ears pierced. Nothing flashy. Pretty unassuming. Behind the scenes they are gauged to 8. Every once and a while someone will notice that the back of my earings are weird or different than what they expect. When they ask, I pull one out and tell them the story.
In 2016 I was on a solo motorcycle trip around the US living in 10 national parks as a back country camper. One day I was in glacier NP and I took a stick and carved two little wooden plugs and popped them in my ears and they have been there ever since.
For some reason people think that the earings and story really cool or interesting. I just see it as apart of me and who I am.

Oh dang. I’m sorry, thanks for pointing that out. I was scrolling through all and read this and found it engaging. I didn’t mean to assert my gender in your community. Where I’m from it’s unusual for males to look anything other than stereo typical, so I thought it was needed in my story.

Y’know, this would be an interesting question to ask in the general AskLemmy communities. I’d love to hear more from men, and everyone, how they break stereotypes as well. Maybe I’ll throw that post in there today.
