The most significant thing about this development is that Timmy (CEO) was extremely vocal about being basically anti-Linux. So this is, in a way, the market (and also Valve largely) forcing his hand, which is the way things should work in an educated society. It’s the way capitalists like the pretend the world works.
Hopefully Ubisoft gets the message soon.
maybe you can find something different but i never saw his stance as “anti” linux but more 'linux isnt worth the time". being honest, i think its more that Microsoft has been very good to epic, however Microsoft has gone through too many identity crises.
either way, i do think there is a good future gaming on linux and linux in general.

I don’t know that MS has “identity crises”. Windows just shifted from being a tool for people to use computers to a tool for Microsoft to use people.
It took Epic three years to implement a shopping cart on their store, I don’t think their idea of “soon” lines up with anyone else’s.

I dont think there is much overlap of people using Steam Deck and using Epic Games Store.

There’s not but some games come with easy anti-cheat on Steam. This may mean those games could potentially be compatible with steam OS.
GOG also said they are working on Linux support for over a decade ago. Some developer saying something unofficial in a Discord server isn’t enough for me to believe this will happen soon. Also, if they have a native Linux application, that plays the Windows games through Proton (or any of its variants), then will they support their own games on Linux too? Will Fortnite be playable on Linux?

Not having epic game store is a feature. That platform is so garbage that it supporting linux will just make linux worse.

I finally got a graphics card from this decade, and I kept trying to play it the other day but it kept giving me anticheat errors before I even got into the game.
Never played it before. Ended up playing slipgate and an athletic young lady let me play cyberpunk a bit.
Nope - anything made by Epic, EA, Ubisoft, Riot or Rockstar is blocked from working on Linux, and the list is actually growing with For Honor being blocked soon
I play Ubisoft games on Bazzite, an atomic distro. Works great, no issues at all.

I don’t think there’s anything that a game could do that would convince me to install windows for it.
I’ve personally ditched most gaming as a result, same as I mostly stopped following media after DRM became a thing a decade or so ago. I wish more people did the same, because interacting with people while being intentionally unaware of popular culture is difficult
DRM has existed since the DVD era. I think there were even several attempts with VHS before that.
What do you think, I was already peeved with DVD DRM, but at least it could be bypassed. With streaming services, where the file resides in a server instead of in a physical medium at home, it’s much harder to fix that
Use GoG. DRM free games. You can download the installer and distribute it for backups. Do anything you like.

Same here. The advantage of Unifideck is that it integrates with Steam so you don’t need to hop between launchers.

Fun Fact, Unreal Engine has supported Linux for a long time, which would be pretty much the only reason I would ever install Epic Gamea Store. The fuckers work for the CCP.

No big deal if they don’t manage to make EAC work on Linux for all usage cases. Fortnite itself still refuses to support Linux, and if that’s the case, why would Epic bother to port its Game Store there?
Technically EAC already works via Proton, can even already spy on Linux via Symlinks to access the entire file system and monitor active processes.
And even then, that is still not enough supervision for a growing amount of developers. Latest in the trend: Sony, with Marvel Tŏkon
