What helped me to do this is (when I had a whole book of these) was to hold the picture beneath my face and look at a point in distance and then raise the book in front of me. Later with computer screens I’d just bop my head up, fix my eyes and then lower my head on the level of the picture. Then just glancing up before looking at the picture was enough.

Nowdays I can just relax my eyes while I look at the picture. It takes like 10-15 seconds depending on the resolution but it’s neat to watch the pattern slowly fade in.

I was having a hard time getting cross eyed stereograms to work, and stubbornly kept trying until after 2 or 3 months I finally succeeded. It was so neat I looked at thousands of images right away. That, however, has ruined my ability to learn how to see parallelview images, singe my eyes just default to crossed when I try to align the elements. I’ve not been quite as stubborn about it, but trying has also been a lot more frustrating.
