I was asked to read out in english class once, and as a nervous teen I stammered out something like “no thanks, I have an annoying voice” and the teacher just smiled at me and said “yes you do!” before asking the guy next to me to read.
At the time, I was devastated and kept my speaking engagements in class to an absolute minimum for several years.
Looking back on it now as someone approaching that teacher’s age:
Hey man, nice shot.
That was funny as hell, and I would have said the same in your shoes. After all, what kind of response can you actually give to something like that?
I’m glad you reached peace with it but from my perspective, that teacher is a mega jerk.
One time I was day dreaming in class, I forget about what but 100% not aware of my surroundings, and the teacher stopped the lecture to ask me to “stop smiling at her like that it’s weird” in one of my highschool classes. It didn’t really ‘bother’ me but I did consider filing a complaint with the school lmao.
I had this interaction once.
Anyways I started declining their invitations from then on.
