Seeing people spread the idea that “bad genetics” are what make bad people makes me want to bang my their head against a fucking wall.

Happened in my workplace, in the implied sense as a coworker I no longer interact with proclaimed I had “good genetics”.

Some background, There is a massive amount of light skin bias in indo-eurasia. Pathan or Pusthans are a group of people in Pakistan/Afghanistan.

We are stereotyped as “tall”, “strong”, “stubborn”, “beautiful”, " light colored skin", “black hair”.

Of course this leads into eugenics. Because of course we get viewed as a “superior” people throughout Indoeurasia.

I don’t get sick often? It’s because I am genetically good (implying others inferiority).

I have lush hair? It’s because I am genetically good. (implying again).

Overall interacting with said coworker was exhausting, and now I don’t. But this reality remains whenever someone learns I am Pathan.

I thought good hair was actually genetics, or am I wrong about that? Several generations of bald relatives had me convinced if I’m being honest.

All hair types are equal, and none are better or worse. Lush vs Thin have their evolutionary rationales.

Balding is a unique unfortunate downside of male biology, and from what I understand, happens regardless of genetic inheritance.

Genetics doesn’t make someone bad, but it can make them more susceptible to influence from a bad environment. A sociopath would be less inclined to become a monster if they were raised in a healthy, positive environment. If they were raised by billionaires, they would be Ragnarok.

There are correlations between genetics and mental health, but this is really sometimes part of a larger problem of people thinking that “bad people” act irrationally or choose evil and also reifying this idea of a bad person. Some people seem to think evil looks like mental illness.

Lots of things are genetic/hereditary (diabetes, higher risk of cancer, etc), but the big systemic things are structures imposed on us and reified among us such as class, race, gender… and then our responses to these imposed divisions are used to justify or explain said division.
